I'm wanting to add Sirius to my Kenwood but DO NOT like the stupid hockey puck antennas. They're not stealthy enough... with the exception of the mirror-mounts for truckers. Those look more like stockers and don't draw attention.
Anyone have ideas/links to a more discrete antenna? |

urmmm
stealthy enough? it says on the site that the antenna can be mounted to the tuner, so doesn't it all depend on where you mount the box? did you ask your installer to see what his opinion is? and if the box is hidden and the antenna is mounted to it does it effect the strength of the signal? my two cents. seems like a neat toy. |

Welllllll, the antenna I had in mind is the spear by Antenna Specialists but it's an XM version and it mounts to 18-wheeler mirrors. Oh well...
You'd think the manufacturers would realize that everyone doesn't advertise that they have satellite radio in their vehicle. But then again... Installer says to mount it 'open to the sky'. Roof? Yes. Dash? depends. |

I have no idea what this antenna looks like. How about a description? My security antenna was supposed to be mounted in an unobstructed place. I taped it to the inside of the plastic cover over the windshield post. Apparently this is far enough away from metal because it works fine. Would you consider this "open to the sky"?

so again, did you talk to someone that installs the unit?
i mean the manufactorer tells you the ideal spots, and the installer knows the tricks.... on the manufactorer website, they say that their antenna mounts to the tuner, so whats the difference between their antenna and the one you want? |

Stephen:
Did you see the antenna that is on the Dream Cruiser for the Sirius radio? I think it is not too big, like "hockey puck". You can see example from my photo on the other how you say, "thread" called Santacruzer's '03 Dream Series II. Maybe you can ask Chrysler about that one. Santacruzer |

Went ahead and got Sirius this weekend to hook up to my X859 head unit. New Generation 2 antenna is now smaller and I got the external satellite tuner box for free. All I can say is [?] [^] [?] I just love "Stream 23": Stadium Rock. Didn't even know it was called that! My amp and Stealthbox really get a workout these days. Now I can't stop drivin' [8)] |

On some of the newer cars, they are now installing the antenna under the dash pad. It still has a fairly clear view of the sky, and the plastic content of the dash pad does little to block the signal..
I have had Sirius in my cruiser since April or early May, and am looking into putting in a 20 gig Keg for MP3 storage. I can daisy chain that through my Sirius diaplay unit and still use the stock radio, or change head units and do away with the additional display unit. |

Here's a pic of the antenna I used for my XM radio:
