Default IPod and the PT

What would be the best way to hook my IPod to my radio? I know there are FM transmitters out the Wang avail., Is there any way to hard wire it to my headunit and is it true that Alpine makes a headunit that works with the IPod?

Thanks!

JW

any 2004 and up Alpine with Ai-Net cd changer control can connect to the iPod via the 420i interface purchased separately. all of the iPod controls are done through the head unit.
i ordered one to go with this deck but it still hasn't arrived and its been over a month. i am going to go through Ebay fraud now so beware of FinestDeals on Ebay.

I can speak on this. Griffin Technology has a slew of products available for you Air...www.griffintechnology.com. Try the iTrip, but it really doesn't work good if you live in an area saturated with radio stations. Of course if you have the cd/tape system, you can just use the line out....plug the pog in, and use the car volume controls. Or wait about 2 months (if you have a tape deck also) and Griffins new Smartdeck will be out. It is a tape that goes into the tape player, but when you push forward, scan, rewing, etc, it controls the functions of the iPod. I would wait on that.

go to this site (http://www.discountcarstereo.com/detail.aspx?ID=360). they have several different adapters that plug into the back of the stock stereo. just as long as you have the cd changer option (if your stock cruiser radio has a mode button and DISC ^ on the first station, then you are OK), then the adapter hooks to the cd changer plug, and the ipod works thru the stereo. even charges the ipod and says that the buttons on the stereo will control the ipod. i ordered one, and will post back when i instal. of course you need to pull the radio, but that is no big deal! if you have a cd changer hooked up, then they have an additonal adapter to run all the items. here in san diego, there are so many radio stations (including all the ones that come out of mexico), that the FM transmitters are junk, can't wait to put this in!!!!

I was excited until I saw that the Ipod2car adapter doesn't work with the Chrysler in-dash 6 CD changer. Not that I would care about a 6 CD changer if I had an Ipod connected, but that's what I've got in the dash.

I can see it coming: install an Alpine headunit blah blah blah...

No disrespect. I'll probably end up doing that.

put it the ipod2car interface. have to say that it is great! was easy to put in, and works as advertised. it charges the ipod, and the stereo controls work on the pod. the cord from the stereo is about 10 feet long, so even people in the back can play DJ (also,if i decide to install an ipod dock, the long cord gives me lots of flexibility for mounting places). and i like that there is only one cord (unlike the tape or fm units, where if you also have the power plug there are multiple cords) that is easy to hide when not in use, and it is easy to plug in the pod and get going. the only dislike was the price, for a little bit more i'd guess you could get a new stereo and some type of adaptor. but i'm happy with it and anyone that wants an easy way to hook up the ipod should check it out.
