Default Speaker Issues

I was excited today. I decided to go ahead and get some new door speakers. I went and bought some Xplod by Sony which I love in my car. I already have them in the back. I Bought exactly what best buy/crutchfield said. I got 6.5's for the doors. I take the panels off, and get the speaker off and um...They dont fit. First of all the factory speaker has this huge ring around it with brackets that extend out to where the screw holes are. These just BARELY cover the whole.. What gives? Any suggestions?

From what your saying, it sounds like the new speaker size is the same as what you had, it's the bracket from the old speaker that you need. Any chance of getting the bracket off the old speaker and using it on the new ones? [:I]

The front Door speakers are supposed to be 6 3/4", not 6 1/2". A lot of places, (Circuit City, Best Buy) figure a quarter inch isn't much, and hey, come buy one of our speaker bracket install kits to make it work right. If Explod makes 6 3/4" speakers, I would say go back and get those. How long have you had your Sony Rears?

I have had the sony rears for abt a year now and they sound great. so far no complaints. I need to see if they have 3/4....It doesn't need a lot more room for them to fit. Kinda irritates me though because now I have to stand in return line, but eh, oh well.

Go with the 6.5" speakers and the bracket. They will be more efficient
using the stock headunit power. I know you like the Sony Explode line that you have but Pioneer has some 6.5" speakers with oversized brackets that are a perfect fit for Chrysler vehicles. Sound quality on both using factory power with be realitivly close.

What I really think thats sucks is the fact that I didn't get any brackets that come with these speakers. All I got was some wire, and that was it....kindof a rip off if you think about it.....should I be able to go to best buy and just get sme of these brackets or do you think I will have to trade in the speakers for a set that comes with the brackets?

Also, i know this is probbly a stupid question, but do your speakers have to match? I mean can you have Pioneers in the front and Xplods in the back? Just a stupid question.

Jmack, Sony isn't the greatest line of car speakers out there... and they don't really come with a lot of extra's like brackets and screws, etc. I know for a fact that Circuit City has speaker brackets for a car, now whether or not they have them for a PT is another question. Best Buy should have them, but they may have to order them. I would go for 6 3/4", the 1/4" difference won't be a biggie.
