Default Does an alarm come standard w/ PT Cruiser?

My PT Touring Edition says it is equipped with Sentry Key Theft Deterrent System. I'm not sure if this is the engine immobilizer or an alarm system.

The dealership said it's an alarm system and it would go off if I tugged on the door handle; I tried it, and nothing.

So does anyone have an alarm system that came with their Cruiser?

All it does it prevent anyone from starting the car with anything but your key. It isnt a security system. No alarm will go off( well there is a PANIC alarm on the remote entry), ect.. They can still get in, break your windows, take your stuff. The dealer lied to you.

my 02 touring system works as an alarm. here is an easy way to see if yours does too...
open your door and lock the car with the remote, the light in the dash should start blinking rapidly. then unlock your door with your hand and close the door. wait for the light to stop blinking rapidly, when it becomes a slow blink, the alarm is set. open your door. if the headlights flash and the horn blasts, then you have an alarm. this is what mine does. the system will stay on until you disarm it with the remote, or after a period of time. it is also supposed to let you know if it has been activated while you are away, i think it honks three times or something to let you know. i know that newer models have had lots of things cut from them, so not sure if the system still works like this. give it a try and let us know!

Thanks for the help, guys. I actually did ask the dealer to demonstrate, but when I got there they told me right away that there was no alarm, and that they don't even have anything they could install; when I went there in person, I got the guy who sold us the car and knew what he was talking about, whereas when I called on the phone, I got whoever happened to be walking by at that exact second and probably had no idea what the answer was. I probably spoke to the janitor on the phone.

So I took the car to Circuit City to have a standard alarm put in and when I got it back yesterday, I drove maybe a mile or two and the trunk warning light came on; we had opened the hatchback when the guy was showing us how it worked, so I didn't think anything of it. So I got out, closed the trunk, and went on my way. Another block or so, it came on again. So I closed the trunk again, got back in, and then it happened before I could even get out of the parking lot I was in.

So I took it straight back to Circuit City to have them fix it, and I'm going to check on it now.

It's not really a big deal, but I'm leaving on a long road trip tomorrow afternoon, so I need it done right by then. Nothing goes smoothly when you have deadlines to meet.
