Default Why not a Stage 2 and 3 for a Turbo?

O.K. I give up. Why in the world can't an SRT4 stage 2 or 3 kit work in a PT?

It is the exact same motor right?
Both cars are built on the same NEON chassis right?
The only real difference between the two cars is the body style, right?

As long as the parts physically fit, why won't they work?

Is it because the computer for the SRT cannot accept a PT serial number?

Let us hear from some real gear heads on this topic.

Thanks.

Two things mainly, plus you would have to have a manual tranny. Cruise Control and lack of A/C funtionality. you'd lose these two things on your car. Cruise control, oh well, but A/C, I couldn't live without. As far as serial number, not really a big problem to overcome. Plus fuel maps would be different too mainly do to the different air/fuel ratios both cars have.

Exactly right.

By the way sabishop, that's a misconception. The PT is NOT built on a Neon chassis. The only thing both chassis have in common is the front suspension. Exact same motor and turbocharger between the SRT-4 and PT turbo, but different intake and exhaust manifolds, programming and trannies. Sorry dude, ain't gonna work. Plus you can get to Stage 2 or Stage 3 levels on your own. My 2004 PTGT was at about Stage 2 levels.

Hi there,

i'm from germany and i think i'm a crazy PT guy, so my PT has at the moment about 275hp.

But there is no end.

I've saw the topic and the differences between the SRT4 and the PT Engine is clear. What is changing the PCM @ the SRT4 if you are cooling with the Turobo Toys Water button ? And what happens with the engine steering in the 100 Octane mode ?

because i think it is possible to do the same with an external controller like a normal tuning Chip, because i have to of those boxes in the controll the loading pressure of the Turbo as the injection time at high rpm.

thanks for answers.

bye
eazy

p.s. sorry my english typing is not the best ;-(

they share the exhaust mani too just intake mani is different. the programing could be delt with just get a power paq. if you want to go fast you can and it will be cheaper to go other routes. if you like the stock looking turbo stuff get a s3 from a noen and a power paq and have fun. but if you are $pending that kind of $$ then just get the agp kit.

p.s. eazy how do you figure you have 275hp? i thought you guys only got the n/a pt? my car makes 275hp and 330ft/lbs at the wheels and that is alot of hp. well it makes 375hp and 430ft/lbs but we won't count that.

Please explain how you are running those numbers. [:I]

sabishop, there are cheaper ways to get to stage 2 and stage 3 numbers with aftermarket parts. My '03 GT was beyond stage 2 numbers and it wasn't nearly as expensive as the srt-4 stage 2 kit.

The curb weight and gearing is specificlly programed to each car also, I believe.

A while back there was one Cruiser GT owner that claimed that he had installed a hand-me-down SRT4 Stage 1 PCM in his Cruiser. BUT he had a pattern of dropping other details that that were phoney so who knows if it was ever true?

If my memory serves correct, I do believe there are [two] PT GT's out there that have the only Stage 2 PT Kits produced from Flight Systems.

Outside of the PCM, you can physcially run Stage 2 or Stage 3 on the PT. The parts will bolt up, with any problem what so ever; however without the computer, it's pointless. Think of the computer as the brain. You could buy Stage 3, and run a good boost management/controller off of the stock computer, but you'd be better off buying an aftermarket turbo setup with components designed to work together. You could also buy Stage 2 (or rather just the wastegate) and again, run some kind of boost management/controller, but why waste the money when you can buy something aftermarket that will work equivilantly at half of the cost. Had Stage 3 been designed for the PT, it would undoubtedly push the limits of the automatic transmission, and most likely the manual transmission as well. Keep in mind, the SRT-4 has a beefier manual transmission than the PT (the PT uses a Getrag). There is no programming for the PT, and there no is a way to re-flash the computer to run correctly with all aspects of the PT Cruiser. So unless someone knows someone at Flight Systems who would be willing to tune you a Stage 2 or 3 computer, you're better off going aftermarket.
