So is it ok to use 87 90 or 89 instead? This is getting crazy.
You really can't HURT the engine with lower grade. The knock sensor will stop problems before you grenade the motor. However, when the knock sensor does it's job and tells the PCM you have predetonation, the PCM will pull timing and really reduce your performance. Some doen't mind this but then what did you buy a turbo for?

eh, ever since gast hit about 2.30 a gallon I've been running my GT on regular instead of premium. You take a performance hit, but it's not that bad. I can still sqeal the tires if I mash it from a dead stop. And it still pulls well enought to pass people, etc.

People who are too cheap to use premium should sell their cars and get ones that use regular. It isn't going to get any better or much better with gas prices. High prices are here to stay unless we can force the oil companies to quit gouging us so they can make record profits. So you cheapskates who need to burn regular buy a car made for that and quit complaining so I don't have to see another thread asking," Can I Use Regular In My GT?" [xx(]

Nah, not stressed out. It just seems that people don't do enough research before making major purchases and then moan about things like having to use premium fuel. I've seen people complain about using premium fuel since '03 when the GT came out. Two years down the road and it's gotten old and dumb.[:I]

Understand - couple years back my wife wanted new wheels - had owned Volvo/Audi/BMW for years, but decided we wanted to buy American if possible. She liked the looks of the Caddie CTS & after driving it (much like a beemer), we bought it. Minor probs, but we still like it. The '03 CTS also requires premium, though later models will run on regular. Just figured it was part of the price for admission...

I kind of agree with both sides here.

Yep, it's dumb to aquire a HO Turbo and stifle it with low grade gas to save money. Why buy the Turbo in the first place?

On the other hand, Yes it is possible to do so. It's your car and your money concerns. You are allowed to do with them what you will.

ALSO...
You can buy expensive lead cyrstal to drink Jim Beam instead of Crown Royal. You can take your date out to McDonalds instead of Ruth's Chris. You can use a throughbred to pull a hay wagon.

I can understnad how you guys feel, but not all gas is created equal. Some regular gas is bad, and others worst. The knock sensor on the car is not perfect, and will not catch everything. Some guys have had knocking using premium because of the new plastic manifold and the fact that the car was running too lean afterwards because it was originally tuned for the alumium intake. The PCM had pulled timing, but the knocking was still there so they had to adjust their piggy back to a new a/f ratio. My point? Regular will make your engine knock, even if you can't feel or hear it. Long term detontation will shorten your engine's life. I would feel alot safer if you guys said "use regular and some highly concentrated octane boost", but none of you guys have even mentioned that. So how about you guys go with mid-grade and a cheaper octane boost? It would be closer to premium and alot safer than running just regular.
