Just a little more sound and better air flow. You should replace the turbo to airbox pipe. It is very restrictive. I also cut the silencer aatached to the snorkle flush with the inside of the airbox. A drop in K&N filter plus changing the turbo to airbox pipe and removing the other two silencers and it will be better than an intake.

Whitby,

Steve Smith posted on the TURBO part of the forum so naturally Mean Green gave him good advice for the Turbo PT. Some of the upgrades about the airbox can still be used with the non-turbo though.

I just did the simple mod (remove silencer and cut down the snorkel) two weeks ago and put in a K&N drop in filter. What I notice in sound is a low whistle anytime I am on the throttle but it is pretty amazing how this simple mod makes the engine feel more alive.

I guess by cutting the snorkel back to 1/8" or so within the airbox, not outside, it feeds the air more toward the center of the airbox and not up against the far side. As it is, the snorkel extends a few inches into the airbox, essentially blowing air directly up against the opposite side instead of into the middle and also takes up a bit of space that could be occupied by cool, fresh air (more air, better breathing). Some elect not to cut the snorkel back.

Did you get the K&N drop in filter too? I would think this makes the biggest difference in the airbox. Part # 33-2153 for my '05 but not sure if this is the one for all years? As I said, the K&N with the mods made an appreciable difference in my opinion. I saw a post that its affect has been Dyno-test proven to add a couple horses.

If I remember correctly the size of the airbox for '05 got smaller so previous years part # for the K&N drop in filter should be different.
