Re: Stage 1 for 06?
My '06 Stage 1 arrived today! I've already installed it. It was a little easier than I remember the install on my '04 GT (perhaps because my '06 GT is a manual tranny and my '04 was an auto -- so no tranny learn procedure) and the PCM in the newer car is smaller. I did not have to move the clutch resevoir as indicated in the directions, that must be for older cars. First disconnect the battery and the wiring to the PCM. Then just remove the four screws that hold the PCM mounting bracket to the car and then the three screws that hold the PCM to the mounting bracket. Reverse the procedure to reinstall. A 10mm socket and ratchet were the only tools needed.
I have to say the seat-of-the-pants difference is dramatic! Even moreso than it was in my '04. Again, it could be the manual tranny that makes the difference. First gear acceleration is nuts!! I wonder if I'll pick up another 1 or 2 mpg at cruise as I did in my old PT GT? If I do, it makes the fuel cost issue a wash. Around here 91-93 octane gas is only about 10 cents more per gallon than the 89 octance gas I usually used before. The only other mod I have so far is a K&N panel air filter, and high performance wires and plugs. Those were installed before Stage 1, so the difference is all from the new PCM. At $440, a well worthwhile expenditure!!
