Folks - My $.02 -

- How many boost controllers are out there [:I] - I don't hear anyone worried about their warranty there. My guess is that the chance of engine damage that can come from boost controllers is much greater then Stage I will ever produce.
Mich,

The catch is that This kit is made by the same people that made the car.
In contrast to aftermarket parts that fits any car, you would expect a better backup of their items simply because they are the same people that designed the car itself...

Buying the kit dirctly from the same dealer that services your car could cost your waranty.... This is the primary reason that people are being held back.

If you buy "X" boost controller from "Y" store and remove it before going for service, unless you left some traces of it in the car, the dealer would repair it under waranty. With "stage I" you run the posibility that the dealer could have it loaded in their database and deny waranty because "you bought a part that is not aproved for the car under waranty conditions"... even if you changed the PCM back to the OEM one.

Until PVO and DC settles the issue, people will still go with aftermarket and keep removing them before service. It could be harmfull to the engine, but it is safer for the waranty and that could mean the diference of a free repair or a 5,000.00 bill.

$0.02

Ian

You know guys if I was as concerned about the warranty on my PT as you seem I would not have bought the car in the first place.

I have purchased a new car every 5 or so years since 1974 and have never had a warranty claim that would have been covered by the current 7/70 power train warranty. I fully expect not to do anything but routine maintence until well beyond 100,000 miles and in my 29 years and very close to one million accumulated miles of new car ownership that has definately been the case. For what it's worth my first turbo Chrysler product was a 1985 Daytona Turbo and I put 240,000 miles on it before my oldest totaled it. This car had a head gasket at about 120,000 miles and I replaced the clutch and 1/2 gear syncros at 190,000 miles.

My current 89 Shelby Daytona has had the "Stage 1" upgrade computer in it since Mopar came out with it that was about 12 years ago, it provides approximately the same 20HP increase. The car currently has 176,000 miles on it was had no work done to the power train until 170,000 miles when I replaced the head gasket. It came with the same no-warranty disclaimer that the current one does. The car also would not pass emissions. So once a year it was a 10 minute swap before going in for inspection.

I would think everyone would be applauding Mopar for coming out with what has to be one of the performance industries biggest HP for dollar deals, especially in such a short time after the car was released.

Does anyone know what the HP - or better yet torque - "design" limits of the stock:
1) GT block (bottom end)
2) AutoStick Tranny and driveline
3) 5-speed tranny and driveline

Thanks,

PeTe

First off, I don't have the cash flow to buy a new vehicle every 5 years... Second.. Although I don't foresee any warranty work, I would rather know that the warranty is their if some thing happened. I would rather wait until my warranty is up, or DC covers the parts they produce under warranty before I take that chance...I'm not made out of $$$$$$ so the warranty is the biggest issue keeping me from buying. Just because something from them in the past didn't cause any problems, doesn't mean something new won't...

dgc333=Old School. We are in the 21st century now and I keep coming back to the same issue. The tuner market is huge, other manufacturers support it with warranty and CARB #'s. We have purpose built engines and Getrag trannies to handle additional load. Why should I piss away money and forfeit my warranty? If DC wants to play in the tuner sandbox, they need to provide equal benefit and backing as other makers do.

I am glad that you have been lucky, and I mean jus that, "lucky".

I have an Eagle vision with the 3.2 engine, bought the extended 100,000 mile drivetrain warranty, at 65,000 mi I was driving along the freeway at 60 mph and "BANG". The transmission ate itself. I had religeously changed fluid every 25,000 miles and drove mostly freeway(not a lot of stop and go). I am a cautious maintainer. Could this happen again? YES Did I have ANY upgrades? NO

Some people subscribe to the fairytale that warranties are for the "unlucky" or the "irresponsible". The myth goes like this...I take care of my car with the proper oil changes and grease the fittings etc., and as long as I am a good boy nothing bad will happen. WRONG Bad $hit happens to good people every day!!! Putting yourself in harms way by jepardising your warranty is a lot like playing on the freeway... you might not get hit if you are quick or lucky but the odds are definitely greater than if you were at home in your living room.

THE MAIN PROBLEM IS THAT THE MORE BONEHEADED PEOPLE THAT ARE WILLING TO THROW AWAY THEIR WARRANTY OR PUT UP WITH NON-CARB GEAR THE LESS LIKELY THAT MOPAR WILL EVER DO IT..."WHY BUY THE COW...YOU KNOW THE REST".
