I'm sure that the Mopar folks have a brownie button for each and every one of the "company line" folks. I know that poor Mopar can barely keep bread on the table for the little Mopars.

Aftermarket parts is a BIG business, and if we as customers want to drive our cars LEGALY on the street, we need the suppliers to do the right thing. (Oh, by the way YOU, the owner of the vehicle are subject to the DEQ fines, since YOU modified it - check your owners manual fine print.)

One of the nice things about a free market is that the purchasers of product eventually get to dictate what the products will or won't do. If Mopar wants the small market(rebels that will break the law for an extra few ponies) then that's what they will manifacture. If they want the larger market, they will have to DO THE RIGHT THING!

Please, just take your modified PT into the wrong shop or get pulled over by the wrong policeman and you will have a nice little fine to pay(California now has a budget deicit and needs your money).

Applaud away...it is the sound of one hand clapping. There would be no smog legal aftermarket parts if there was no market for them. Coming from a mostly mustang background I can tell you that you can't hardly step off a curb without tripping over a smog legal part for a mustang. Most manufacturers like Edelbrock, Pro-M, Trick Flow and many many more have realized that, like it or not, smog legal is the future. I still say Mopar is stuck in the last century if they don't realize this.

If you do get caught there is a substantial ($1500 fine).
The question is this ... if it's ok, then why not get DEQ approval?
If it's not, why flaunt the law and put thousands of polluting vehicles on the road?
How would you get caught with larger injectors. I know the laws in California are strick on emissions but in PA, you have to fail the emission test - and I don't think the larger injectors will contribute 1 ounce toward higher rating on the pollution chart. Again In PA, if you fail the test, they send you home without a sticker and tell you to come back when the vehicle will pass the emissions testing. -- How I would ever get caught with a Stage I in my car is totally beyond me. I really think some of us are making a MOUNTAIN out of a MOLE HILL. [:I]

I do have to applaude the frontrunners. They will make the mistakes, blow the engines, fight the good fight over warranty work, and baisically be the quality control for untested goods. They will suffer so that we can have the next generation of de-flawed AND tested goods.

Please read the sticker on the front of your Stage I kit when it comes!
Don't forget to put the plaque on your ride so you can let them know where to look.

(Remember to keep your old injectors and ECU so you can reinstall them for your smog test).

Kirby - Not a problem in PA - maybe in Southern Cal - Why not move the the East Coast.
Guess this Stage I is not for the faint-hearted Kirby.

I just don't care to sneak around and openly flaunt the law.

If your stage I spews CO and NO2 into the Pennsylvania countryside so what, it's the people in Ohio that will get the benefit from the acid rain, right?

How many Mustangs are driving around to support the cost of development/certification of parts compared to the PT or SRT-4? 10, 100 baybe 1000 times more? It's all a matter of economics! I also, noticed you mentioned companies that make hard parts that can be approved to across a range of applications based on similarity. There are very few certified engine management controllers out there and the ones that are again only have applications for very high volume vehicles.

Can we kill this topic anymore? We have been told the issues we brought up in work, who knows what'll happen...just wait and see and stop b*tching already...all 18 pages of this thread say the same thing....bla bla bla warranty...bla bla bla emission approved...I agree on both topics it needs to be fixed...but why keep beating a dead horse? Wait until we get the final word on it, then vent...Is there anything some of ya'll like about your PT? Rear sway bar...stage one...cargo net...bla bla bla...if you had so many issues why did you by a PT? Do I want the rear sway bar fixed...yes...do I want stage one covered with a warranty...yes...do I want it emission approval...yes...but you can only say the same thing so many ways before all you do is make yourself sound like a complete a$#....PATIENTS and all will come to those that wait...and if it doesn't happen, don't waste your money...just my 2 cents...if I piss anyone off I'm sorry, but I am just sick of visiting here to only see negative posts...this board use to be more than just a b*tch session...lets get back to talking about other things besides sway bar/warranty/emission.....[xx(][V][xx(]

There you go making disparaging remarks about a difference of opinion again!! [V]

I agree the aftermark is huge! But again I say it's a matter of economics you only see parts requiring regulatory certification for the high volume vehicles. If the PT turbo takes off in the sales department there will likely be "legal" goodies available. Right now your choice is to purchase what's available or not. Like I said I do not know for sure about rules and fines and those that are residents of California certainly do have a tougher time of it. I do know that here in Mass they look for certain items (exhuast, cat ,etc)and run a test, you pas you are good to go you don't you get a reject sticker and are sent away to have repairs done.

As far as to where what shop I take the car to! Other than a DC dealership there is no way any body is going to be able to tell that I have a modified ECM and different injectors and as it's been said many times if it's a warranty issue and those mods could be interpreted as the cause, just swap them out. As for the local law enforcement, how would they ever know? You are much more apt to be hauled over for your exhuast and intake mods.
