Okay all here's a reply from customer service regarding warranty: MOPAR Performance Parts - (MOPAR Part Number Beginning with "P")

Competition parts are sold AS IS without any warranty whatsoever. The
entire risk as to quality and performance of such parts is with the
buyer.

Should such parts prove defective following their purchase, the buyer
and not the manufacturer, distributor or retailer assumes the entire
cost of all necessary servicing and repair.

DaimlerChrysler Corporation "vehicle warranties" are voided if the
vehicle fails as a result of this modification.

Also, your selling dealer can enter this part into his "system", and get
all the pricing information required to sell you this part.

I hope this information is helpful.

Have a good day.

I guess it's buyer beware....they are sticking to letter of the law concerning aftermarket parts. I'm still gnna do it! The burden of proof will still lie with dealer !

flashbk2,

Did they have anything to say about this verbiage from their website?

Notice

Federal and many state laws prohibit the removal, modification or rendering inoperative of any part or element of design affecting emissions of safety on motor vehicles used for transporting persons or property on a street or highway. Violation may result in a fine of up to $27,500 per vehicle. Mechanical and/or electronic performance parts cannot be use used on vehicles used on the streets or highways. These parts may be used only on vehicles used solely in sanctioned off-highway events. No other applications are intended or implied.

Note - California Only

The emission laws and regulations of the state of California apply to all non-racing vehicles. Consequently, when indicated and appropriately marked on their packaging may legally be used in California only on a racing vehicle which will never be operated on public roads.

The missing point here is D.O.T clearance. Even small engine builders have gotten clearance for their modifications. Without this, we here in California cannot drive our cars legally.

I truly wish that this was like the good old days when they sold 426 Hemi 'Cudas off the showroom floor with NO Warranty and you could still drive them on the road. Alas, we have to jump through some hoops or face purposly gigantic fines.

Even if we must bear the brunt of our mods, at least take the time to have them D.O.T. approved.

flashbk2,

Thanks for the reply.

Looks like their reply to you came right from the Mopar website (it says the same thing in almost exactly the same words).

I really don't understand most everybody's concern on the emissions part of this kit. Nowhere in the documentation for the Stage I kit does it say that the emissions controls have been altered or removed. It does increase the availability of the fuel and turbo response, as well as other performance related items. What does this have to do with emission control? Answer: Nothing!

All this verbage on the DC site is legalese to cover their backside in the event that one of the cars that it is installed on fails to meet some state's emission requirements, regardless of what might be causing the shortcoming.

Regarding the warranty issue, much the same logic is applicable. Why do you think that those few who have had some problem with their engine AND had added a boost controller, were sure to remove the boost controller and any evidence of it's having been there, before taking their cruiser in for service, be it warranty or otherwise? It is still up to the dealer or zone representative to prove that any modification, be it from the aftermarket world or DCX caused the failure. If you are going to add something to your cruiser to take it past stock levels, then you have to expect to take some risk. After all, you are the one making the changes.

Lighten up! We've all been clamoring for more performance, and now they've given it to us. Stop complaining and enjoy. I know I will certainly enjoy even more power than I have.

My 2-cents!

very true...rip apart a rice-mobile now, aske ?'s later!!! But yes, as with anything else, buyer beware... SO THE KIT IS AVAILABLE TO CANADIAN DEALERS AS WELL!!?? I'm trying to figure if i'm gonna have to order off the net or not... To those worried about emissions, you are gonna have a serious problem with modding your car...b/c according to the law, even an exposed-filter intake is illegal; and that is one of the most basic building-block mods...

quote:If you look on the web site for the Stage 1 upgrade, at the bottom is a link to the warranty information. It states in the first paragraph that "Mopar Performance Parts are sold 'as is', without any warranty whatsoever."

I understand this to say that we take the risk.
How many of us GT Turbo owners are willing to take this risk? Most of us spent somewhere between 21-26K for our new turbo cars--IMHO, that's real money! Not sure I want to gamble when the stakes are that high? My GT runs flawlessly and has all the power I really need, so, why take the chance of ruining a good thing? You know what they say--"If it's not broken, don't fix it!" Just me two cents.

Question:
1) the kit passes DEQ standards in California: why not run it by the powers that be and get the numbers on the kit?
2) the kit doesn't pass California DEQ; How do we swap out the kit to pass testing for re-liscensing every other year?

Does anybody else notice that the King is naked?
