Hi guys,
I just bought a used 04 Pt Cruiser Turbo. I guess it's the 180hp version and I read that the GT version has a high output 230 hp turbo. Is the hp difference between these two simply just boost? Or does the GT have a bigger turbo, blow off valve etc. Basically I was wondering if there was an easy way (i.e chip or boost controller) to get to the 230hp of the GT version. Oh and I live in the somg nazi state of Cali so it would need to be emissions friendly. Thanks! |

You're definitely looking toward the Stage 1. Do a search for that in the forums and you'll find all kinds of info.

I have an '04 Turbo Lite here in SoCal as well. The engine is identical in every way to the GT HO unit, only the programming in the PCM restricts boost and allows the engine to run on regular gas. I installed the Stage 1 upgrade when the car had but 2000 miles on it (now 27,000) and have never looked back. Installation is a snap and the rewards are just incredible. Check out www.haynesspeedshop.com for the best pricing and service.

Yep, going Stage 1 on a turbo lite will put a permanent smile on your face!

Mean Green, how about the effect of installation of a Stage I on a HO Turbo with A/T? Or would you do MOPAR/Borla duals first?
Thanks!

I know the HP bump that S1 provides over a GT Turbo doesn't sound like much, but it really changes the overall personality of the car. Boost comes on sooner and holds longer, the tranny shifting is altered in a positive and noticeable way. You will notice a far greater improvement on the HO after installing S1 than you would from the Mopar/Borla duals. That's a fine exhaust system and it sounds really nice, but it won't really gain you much of anything from a performance standpoint.
