Cool Stage I or not?

I have a 2007 Convertible GT. While I'm happy with the performance, would it be worth it to upgrade to the Stage I kit? I realize it won't give me much if any more power, but are the computer mods it makes worth it? Also, do they make one for the '07?

Well worth the enhancements.

FYI Tommy no longer works for haynes speed shop, he said he didn't know how long the site would be up and maintained after he left.

Know that, but if they are still up and running they are a cheaper place to get it. They have updated the pricing for the '03 S1 so it looks like they are still open.

Um, yes it will give you more power. Even though the peak hp number is only 10-15 more, the increase in torque is substantial throughout the rev range. If you have an automatic, you might want to start saving for an upgraded transmission.

Yes there is already a 2007 Stage 1 kit available, and it is worth a lot more hp than you think, even though the peak hp increase looks to not be that much, the increase in the mid range from 3000 to 5500 is 25 to 30 hp higher than stock, also if you look at the late 2005 and up Stage 1 install sheet, you will see that the hp ratings are measured at the wheels and not the crank like the factory hp ratings, the 2003 & 2004 Stage 1 kits were measured at the crank also, so there is still a good increase in the late stock 2005 & up 180 or 230hp at the crank engines to the 235hp rating at the wheels for the Mopar Stage 1 upgrade, this has been seen and proven on another forum, where several members with late 2005 and up Stage 1 cars were dyno tested at 230 to 240whp and 275 to 300ft-lbs of torque with the Mopar Stage 1 kit, and the upgraded plugs, wires and exhaust as recommended in the Stage 1 kit. I noticed a great improvement in engine and auto trans performance in my DC4 both on the street, and in my track times after adding the full Stage 1 upgrade 2.5 years ago.

Interesting. You must be talking about the Crew, but I don't remember that. I know they lied about the stock numbers for the SRT-4 from the beginning. My '05 Stage 2 install sheet still said 265 hp at the crank. I do know that is a lie, though, as my Aeroforce Interceptor scan gauge says with my S2 and TBE I'm running 336 hp at the crank which is around 280 whp. Yeah, it's a little rocket.

You are right, it is interesting, as after seeing the 235hp, 275ft-lbs at the wheels printed on my late '05 Stage 1 install sheet, I called the Mopar Performance Hot Line, and was told that yes they changed the Stage 1 rating to the wheels on the PT when the 230hp plastic intake manifold engines came out in mid '05, and that it had to make more hp if they were going to sell very many to owners that already had 230hp off the showroom floor, and yes I was talking about the Crew, several (at least 4 that I know of), late '05s & '06s were dyno'd at the specs I mentioned above, and then when I mentioned the Stage 1 install sheet measuring at the wheels, everybody that had a newer one dug it up and had never noticed the "measured at the wheels" on the Mopar dyno graph before I brought it up.

But who knows the minds of the hp Advertisers.

The 03s are a little bit more complcated because you have to replace the injectors, '04 & up are a lot easier, but, It is designed to be a self install, as long as you have & can use a 3/8" socket set, and read and understand and follow the directions, they are spelled out very nicely, and if you have an auto trans, the trans learn is also easy and fun to do, you just need to follow all the directions with no short cuts on the auto trans learn if you have one. if you have a 5 speed then it is even less time to do the upgrade.

There is even a 800 help line in the directions if you need to ask a question or two.
