Stage 1 takes 8th place

Car & Drivers August issue features a report on the Cannonball "One Lap of America". It was won by a $120,000 Vette with Nitrous (575 hp)but in a very respectable 8th pace was a brand new SRT-4 with a Mopar Stage 1 kit driven by two Chrysler engineers. On the track portions of the lap, the cat and muffler were removed. The results were 0-60 = 5.2 sec and in the 1/4 mile; 13.6 at 106mph. They were class winners in the "Mid-Price Sedan" section of the race.

I'm wondering what the race prep weight for a PT GT might be: remove all that wonderful sound deadening material and the rear seats, spare tire, etc....my guess is about 2850. Add the Stage II for next year. They would be competitive in the "small SUV class"!!!!

Guess what?

They removed the sound deadening material that was in the 2002 models when they made the 2003 GT. Another way that DCX saved you from carrying that extra weight around. As an added benefit, we get a closer feeling of "One-ness" with the highway since we can hear it a lot better than the last year's model.

I thought the SRT-4 was already void of mufflers from the factroy ?

Triple: i believe they use high flow resonators instead of mufflers...
