Default Stage 1 Kit official or aftermarket?

I called my dealer today asking about a Stage 1 upgrade for my 2004 turbo lite.

He said he would do research and call me back.

He called back saying there was no stage 1 kit for the pt because there was no room for it under the hood?

Are all the kits aftermarket? I wanted the dealer to do the work for me, but they will only do it if they order the part and it is an official part...

Anyone have a part number?

Someone will come along with the stock number but in the meanwhile find another dealer or at least someone who knows what they are talking about at that one.

Satge 1 is an offical upgrate for the turbo lite and the full turbo. In your case it only consists of a computer upgrade. Before 04 there were also bigger injectors but you already have them in your 04.

For '04 on up the Stage 1 consists of just the Stage 1 pcm replacement. This is listed on page 201 of the 2009 Mopar Catalog. I guess your dealer doesn't subscribe.

Ok so I called the dealer back (unfortunately there is a shortage of Chrysler dealers in my area) and gave him the part number and page number. He put me on hold for a while and when he came back he said he found the part, and could order it -- but that it stated in the catalog that installation of the part would violate emissions control standards, and would make it so the car is no longer street legal. He said that while they would order the part they would not install it because of this.

Has anyone that has had the upgrade done had trouble passing emissions? Would I need to swap back in the old computer to pass an emissions test? Im in Wisconsin if that makes a difference...

You would think in these economic times that the dealer would want the money I am trying to give them!

Stage 1 will pass emissions. I've never heard it to fail in the last six years.

HMMM. My dealer installed mine way back in '03. As cruiserdad stated you can easily install this your self. Probably take all of 30 minutes to switch the pcm. If you have the auto you'll have to do a tranny learn which is pretty easy. You just need some open road. There is no tranny learn with a 5 speed.

I fix computers for a living, and while I am just getting in to cars, I am thinking that doing it myself will probably be the best thing for me to do.

I do have an automatic, so for the tranny learn -- does it come with directions?

Finally, I know there is a blow off valve part that is an accessory to the stage 1 upgrade (sold separately) should I get that too? do I need it? is that an easy install also -- or am I getting to the point where I should have someone along that knows what they are doing? haha

Thanks!

The tranny learn does come with instructions.

The Mopar bov (not even a real one) is not needed. It's just a noisemaker. It's a PITA install for a little more noise.

10-4.

Ok, I think I can handle this; I even found the tranny learn instructions on ptcrew -- just need to find a road where I can go through them (live in the city/suburbs).

I guess if I get real stuck I could always ask one of the mechanics in our shop to come do it for me for some beer (I work for Caterpillar).
