Just about any car will blow good numbers with a 3,000 mile catalyst. Remember, these cars must also pass the same test with 120,000 mile aged catalysts and O2 sensor(s).

[brThis is really interesting news. I just received the Mopar magazine that describes all the go fast gear for the Neon but does not say anything about warranty, CARB, or legality issues. I think I'm going to send in a email to the mag asking why they don't comment on these well known issues - just to stir the pot a bit more for us GT'ers who want to be "staged".[]

Hello Mike,
Did you read the quote? They are pursuing the E.O. exemption and currently revising the warranty policy. These issues have not been completed yet so how can they be expressed in a magazine?
Well what ticked me about the article in Sept Mopar Mag is that they talk about the go fast gear in great detail - but don't mention any of the practical limitations like CARB etc - which we all know about. It seems only fair to me that an article that is essentially advertising should carry a "Please note" clause. I doubt they would publish any letter I send on the subject, but if they did it might make some of the guys who want to spend their hard earnt $$$ send a letter or two to Mopar asking why can't we do these upgrades legally. There is no harm in keeping their feet to the fire.[}]

FYI: The article starts with a comment that SEMA has noted that the aftermarket retail sales for 2002 were $182 BILLION, of which almost $27 BILLION went for performance parts and accessories. Mopar doesn't get all of that obviously but the market is very large for this stuff - a lot larger that I thought it was.

The question has to be asked , why no C.A.R.B. number?
I intially posted my thoughts on that, and still think I'm right --$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.
It really does not cost that much to get certified. Applications are free. It does cost around 5000.00 to get an independent lab to test the vehicle. The test is basically The Federal Test Procedure.
...but, here is a link for detailed information needed. Check it out. (http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/aftermkt/topforms.htm)

P.S. Did you read my previous post above?Mopar to ya, ptgtcb [8)]
No, I immediately responded to Kirby's post without reading all the following posts; and thanks for the CARB info, very good reading. How much does it cost for the Federal EPA certification; isn't it more expensive and time consuming?

2005 will be the last year for the PT?

From what I have been reading, the 2006 model year will introduce a Mitsubishi Platform-Based PT Cruiser with a modified body style. I will look around for a link...

Here is a link, with a quote from that link:

Would a kit that is purchased prior to CARB approval and not shipped with exemption sticker be covered under a subsequent CARB approval?

Konis, F/R sway bars is fantastic.
This plus new wheels and real tires and of course stg 2 when it comes out.....I hear you on those 100mph bursts, the GT just cruises nice and easy at 80, don't even realize I'm doing 80 and have to let off the gas.

we all pretty much knew it would pass emissions with stg 1 installed, I had the test done so there's more fuel to throw into the fire as to why DCX didn't get CARB approval for stg 1

Um, the Neon and PT aren't the same platform. The Neon gets a new Mitsubishi platform, but PT is gonna be around for a long time to come.

Also, CARB certification (as opposed to exemption) is in the neighborhood of $150k. There isn't much profit in a $400 upgrade to be able to do that from the get-go.
