You use less throttle action to move the car.

I am sure it has to do with allowing the engine to operate within its designed efficiency bell curve. We all know that the engine was de-tuned for insurance and engine longevity reasons. I will bet that Stage II doesn't push the little 2.4 off the 27 mpg figure on long trips either.

The second tank full was up to 25.2 mpg. The driving senario was pretty much the same. My mpg sure is better than my first tank full.
