Hmmmmmm....sounds fishy to me... 3 bent valves is not a problem that will come and go. There must have been a valvetrain failure somewhere along the line...

Yeah something is up there. Maybe the belt skipped or something.Did you ever rev so high that you might have floated the valves? I thought there was a built in rev limiter though.

Hey Kev,that sounds awful fishy to me ! Also the 2.4 l is supposed to be free but I can tell you from experience with my '01 with crane cams it's not ! When the timing belt tensioner let go after installing crane -10 cam kit it took out all the exhaust valves.

When people talk about how tired and booring the warranty talk is I kringe. The truth in this situation is the in dealer 1's shop you had no warranty, AND in dealer2's shop; without the mechanic's help....strike 2. Head and valves I'm guessing at least $1,500.00.
I am sure in some dealerships you surely would have been out of luck, or in areas where there is only one dealer for hundreds of miles well........

I am so glad that you will be taken care of by caring people! Please keep in touch about the cost of repair, and your experience.

Thank You for sharing!

Bent valves? This is a free-spinning engine. Betcha dealer screwed something up here, like took the head off with the cams still in it - and dropped it on a bench. No wonder it is covered.

Would suggest putting some di-electric grease on the plug wires though...

I keep thinking about this, but never write it:
When you shop for your new PT, you should always know your price points, but, check out the dealer first! What quality of work is done (better business bureau, etc.). Buying your new car is like getting married to your dealer, you WILL need his or her support sometime, and crunch time is not the time to find out that you made a mistake.

This is natural selection of the positive type. Dealers that actually take care of their customers benefit from the extra sales!
There should be a reward for being one of the good guys, am I right MEX?

Anyone want to take guess at what out of MY pocket ca$h this is gonna cost me? The head was returned from the machine shop to the dealer today. Reinstall will begin tomorrow. They're replacing 8 valves plus valve guides. Wondering why 8 if only 3 were bent? They have had the car for over 3 weeks. OK, let the guess's begin[xx(]

Macine shop cost:
$300 flat fee (bench Time)
$350 for 8 Exhaust valves
$100 8 new guides pressed in

$750.00

$1,500 tear down and re-build head
$ 150 Gasket set

$1,650

General area...$2400, but could be much higher because of labor costs (quite variable)

Kirby, you never fail to cheer me up with your reply's LMAO! Just kidding! Ok, what's it gonna cost me IF IT GETS COVERED BY WARRANTY? And if you say that is the cost under warranty, I won't reply for some time until I can pick myself up off of the floor[xx(]

You should walk out with the total cost of a good handshake and a polite "thank you" plus tax!
