Well, Kirby & GH, I can only hope you are right with that. Even then, it just won't be the same

How long can they take to put on a head?

(This isn't one of those shops where you ask how many mechanics it takes to screw in a lightbulb, is it?)

Maybe they waited for the head to come back from the machine shop before they ordered the gasket set? (And they specified ground delivery.)

The fiasco is over (I hope) Turns out, the other service manager blamed it on a weak timing belt tensioner. Said it was just 'SLOPPY enuf' to keep it in time under normal driving but would allow it to slip slightly outa time, but not skip a tooth under boost. Replaced 4 burnt exhaust valves in cyls 1 & 4, and replaced the other 4 in cyls 2 & 3 that were well on their way. Resurfaced all intake valves and replaced all guides with stanless steel. ALL REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY Kinda odd how at first I was told by one service manager it was bent valves?[:I] The question arose again about racing[:0] So, except for the 3" scratch on the pass side fender & the front fascia scratched all to hell from the towtruck all seems to be ok so far. And to think I got all this for FREE! Some FREEBIES are good, some not so good. I must say, whomever worked on the car did a pretty good job of putting everything back together. The parts I had powdercoated did not have one single scratch on them. There is a bracket missing that was there before. It bolts to the back of the intake mani to the block. It sits right behind the coil. I'm pretty sure it's to support the rear of the intake manifold. Anyways, I'll baby it for 500 or so miles and see how it goes. Damn, 5 weeks is a long time to do what they did I think. Peace Out[?]

Kev, sure you and Donna are glad to have the GT back ! Sorry you had those problems . I went through a very similar thing last summer with my old cruiser with the crane cams, etc. End result was much the same as yours without car 4 weeks and all exhaust valves bent all due to faulty camshaft tensioner.

I remember reading about YOUR fiasco with your old PT. So I now know what you went through. I think I read Bob Stockum makes a upgraded belt tensioner for the N/A Hahn turbo's. Does your buddy Larry/FDaddy use one of these? I sure hope this is NOT a reoccurring problem and DOES NOT happen to anyone else. I think if I really knew what was going on, I would have sent it to B. Stockum to get a port/polish job. I bet he wouldn't have taken 5 weeks LoL!

I just called him, he said he's got Bob's hydraulic setup ,but he's not 100% sure . I think @ 1 point Bob was thinking of the GT style ,so he'll check and let me know.

Those timing belts are a boon and a curse. They are worth 5-10 HP because of decreased weight and drag, but they break, stretch, and in this case slip just enough to cause trouble.
Glad to see you are back on the road!

P.S. Are the stainless valve guides a stock item? (A lot of older engines have brass guides.)
