The general consensus seems to be that the turbo lite (180 hp) engine is identical to the 215 hp to 220 hp GT engine, but tuned for regular gas and lower boost. If that is accurate, does it seem logical that the Stage 1 Kit would bolt right on for a substantial increase in hp and performance?

YES! (You might want to chech the baro sensors -TIP, MAP- for part numbers against the new High Output.)

You might want to watch out......Mopar Performance might not warrant this install!

Since the automatic that comes with the 180 HP Turbo is weaker, you may want to also put 2-3K in the bank for tranny replacement when it blows. Maybe an engineer type will give us the maximum torque input that tranny is designed for to help you in your decision...or you could be the guinea-pig and let us all know how much you were into the throttle when it came apart. We've already had a couple of broken GT's due to failed converters and axles with HP upgrades...how many more will we now receive when owners try hopping-up the "value" version?

The most common problem with automatics is the torque converter, lock-up converters tend to get REAL hot and disintegrate under stress. Usually it happens over time..... you gradually notice that 2500rpm uphill is 50mph, and 2500rpm on the flat is 60 or 65mph....then one bright sunny day when you are driving to pick up the kids -BANG- the tranny eats itself for no apparent reason.
![]() I wish that they would consider the Getrag 5 speed in th SVT! (Why purposely make more ANGRY customers?)[xx(] |

Hate to rain on everybody's worry parade, but the auto in the SVT is EXACTLY the same trans as behind the GT motor. Your autostick special is mostly different in the software side of things. In fact, every single automatic FWD car made by Chrysler today (excepting the LH sedans) has the EXACT same trans.
As for why there is no cheap stick turbo, ask the planners.

Interesting ! Thanks for informed response. Can you tell us directly or indirectly if the Stage 1 and its PCM will work its magic with the SVT on premium gas? Or perhaps by omisson you have allready.

That should be great news for us all with automatic/autostick transmissions! That means that any build kit to make our automatic stronger will work for everybody!!
