3BarBoost,
Had a chance to go to a place where the temp was 83
hit the throttle hard and the boost was back to 15.25 pounds,
you are right about the air temp making a difference, thanks for
your input.

Well, that's good news. Was afraid you found a new way for the car to misbehave....

What about adding a little engine compartment air in the cold weather, think that would help trick the little rascul?

You are forgetting that boost does not equal power. Cold air is denser, therefore we dial back the boost so you get the same torque and power as before. However, if you want to impress people with the position of your boost gauge dial - go right ahead....

3Bar, If the boost had not been "dialed back" to get the same torque and power, wouldn't we be getting more power and torque with the colder air?

That's what I have been saying. If you take the boost control away from the PCM, colder air WOULD make more power. However, since we wanted the trans to live way out to 150k miles with a leadfoot tromping on it - we had to limit the torque the engine can make, all the time. We will give you more boost when it is hot out so effectively the car is just as fast hot or cold outside.

Why not make the trans and carrier a lot stronger, so the leadfoots of the world can get the fun they bought the car for?

3Bar, now I'm depressed. The PCM won't allow more Tq in cold weather,[xx(]; as a previous '89 Turbo Trans Am owner with lots of mods, I used to look forward to cold weather, and now I find out this.[xx(]How about slipping me a PCM with modified programming so this won't occur? My TTA had 165K miles when I sold her, with original tranny, alternator and engine, and was still running mid 12's on street tires; not everyone abuses their vehicle - though I admit, I'm different than most.[xx(][xx(][xx(]
I'm really bummed out.

BTW, thanks for the info and keep up the good engineering!!!!

Sorry guys, but you'll find that we are making more torque than any other front-drive car out there. Rear drive cars have heavy enough trans to handle the extra torque, but there isn't a whole lot of room for a big heavy trans is front drive.

We are giving you as much as the trans will let us. And we'll give the full power rating to you all the time, something your turbo trans am couldn't claim (ie hot weather or altitude).
