3Bar:

Just wanted to drop you a quick not to tell you how much I appreciate your informed input. I hope you will continue to provide us with your informed perspective on a variety of performance issues. Your experience is quite valuable in deriving the most pleasure from what I believe to be a well designed vehicle with incredible stealth performance potential.

Thanks for all your help.

P.S. I was able to find a 180 hp turbo for my son for less than $20,000. Have ordered the Stage 1 for him and really look forward to seeing the results.

PM ? Sorry??? So to contact you I just need to
address an e-mail to neons.org att: 3BarBoost?
As my friend FRM3 already posted-it is great to
have someone with first hand information. But,
(as you said before) correct me if I'm wrong,
some pointed direct questions would have to
be hedged and inferences drawn, correct?
Again, Thanks 3BarBoost. H.

3BarBoost,

Sometime back in one of your early post you asked what we(the poeple on this site wanted) will if I could access the data that is running real time in the pcm I could find out what is going on. Just a thought, thanks for all you have posted.

What he said. Understand that as part of my contract with DCX there are many matters I just can't talk about (like getting data off the the engine controller). On the other hand, I can help with a large variety of other subjects - particularly if you are having troubles understanding how things work, or why some upgrades are better than others.

3BarBoost:

I am glad to have clear explanations of how things work and what particular upgrades will actually make a difference (after reading your posts I did not change air intake).

When installing the stage 1 kit on my sons 04 SVT is there anything we should do not covered in the Stage 1 directions? ( In that Stage 1 directions assume GT rather than SVT)?

I am also curious as to tires (brand, size) you consider helpful for greater launch traction.

Thanks

The results of installing a Stage 1 on a SVT might be a little unpredictable - on the trans side. I really don't know what would happen if you stuck it in other than P,N,R or D. Might experiment a little - at least putting the production controller back in is easier than in a Neon. Because of that, a Stage 1 is cake compared to an '03 install. Unplug one controller, plug the other in.

As for tires, if you don't mind getting new tires every 10k miles there are lots of better choices than the GSAs. Depending on where you live, you might be able to tolerate a three-season tire (which means 'suck in snow') - you will be talking another set of wheels with snow tires however. The SRT stock tires, BFGoodrich G-Force KD or KDWs are pretty awesome - at the other end of the spectrum Nitto and Kumho are cheap, but the stickiest tire I have experienced recently was the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup (a DOT-labeled slick). About the biggest tire I have seen fit is a 235/45-16 (yes 16). Keeping in mind I spend most of my time on road courses as opposed to the strip. Visit Tire Rack and look around....

Without the autostick I see no reason to use 1 and 3. Shift points should be fine with D. Greater concern is that Stage 1 HP becomes available. Would you assume D would be solid?

Live in Houston so I don't need Winter tires. I'll take a look at the BF Goodrich options and the Michelin is intriguing for the strip.

Thanks
