At some point you will run into the wall. The wall of torque and horsepower versus drivetrain and powerplant durability.

As we approach 300 horsepower, there will be a price to pay in drivetrain lifespan.....there is no free lunch.
You must then ask yourself how much horsepower you need to satisfy your itch, and balance it with the inevitable repair costs.

As is becoming more and more clear, expect to shoulder your own repair costs, and if you get some warranty help, count yourself lucky.

There is a natural limit here, just don't cry when you reach it.

I agree, I'm gonna guess that anything over 350HP will start to wreck havoc on the stock drive train and 330HP or less won't cause any problems.

If anything, transmissions and half-shafts are more sensitive to torque than power....

How long did it take for that to happen? What did you do to prevent it from happening again?

PVO PT,
Were you running slicks...or stock tires? If I remember right your also running a 5-spd, which generally shocks the drive train more anyway (as does mine). Also have your switched to firmer motor-mounts to get around the wheel-hop on launch?
If 320 crank torque is the magic-number for entering the breakage-zone then most of us will not want to go beyond Stage 2 WITH the race-fuel switch...that's rumered to put us at 285 HP and 300 #'s torque (yes I'm still praying we'll have the option of getting the Turbo Toys).

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to put this Torque/Horsepower thing down, far from it. We should be aware of what pieces will show the strain, and be aware that the added stress will take it's toll.

There are a couple of vendors that have Racing axels (half shafts) for the Neon and the SRT-4, haven't had time to see if they also make axels for the Turbo Cruiser, thou. Len Ayala, PhatRidz, Scott Mohler, and the other Drag Race Neon are all putting down well over 500 horse power and those axels are holding up nicely. I believe on of them is the DriveShaft Shop.
