I wonder if "Jody" can comment on this. I know that none of us can predict what the dealer's intention is. But, if writting a 25K check for a car that is to be warrantied for 7/70, will it be 'JUST' this dealer to honor this warranty work??? I might be able to deal with that, but it must be clear in writing/documented. This week will tell, the ball is bouncing back into their court/lot......Stew

Having a 2003 Turbo GT, I was one that also wanted a little bit more just to see what the four cylinder was capable of. I put on the Stage 1 kit, and recently had a major problem that I could not diagnose, and when it was at the dealer, they were baffled for almost a week. It seems the Stage 1 computer is sadly lacking in the trouble codes dept. My car was running terrible and no codes were logged into the PCM. Well... I found out pretty fast where Chrysler Stands as far as the STage 1 mods go. They were not going to warranty the work because it had the Stage 1 on it, and the problem turned out to be a leaking injector. I like the Stage 1 a lot, and I am awaiting a new injector and two spares I ordered. The Stage 1 was put on in November, but there is no warranty, thus not even a replacement of the injector. I am now driving the vehicle with the stock injectors and Stage 1 PCM. So what will I do in the future. If a problem develops with the vehicle, I will pull off the Stage 1 PCM and the injectors. Since I have the 7/70 warranty, I would like to get what I paid for. If it turns out that when the Stage 1 is off, the problem is solved, well... if it is injector related, I will put the Stage 1 back on, if it is Stage 1 PCM related, well... I will just have to live with the stock unit from then on. At least with the stock unit, if something acts up I will have a clue as to what it is and can deal with it.
So.. as they say... Caveat Emptor... Let the buyer be ware. That extra power may cost you extra bucks down the line if you are not careful.

[:I]I was told 'My' Stealer will provide me with a warranty to be valid nation wide, and even smog legal, although there is plenty of internet info and flyers indicating the oposite. How can you (me) make this dealership read the words and understand the words their company states. They feel they can override everything to make a sale. And that STAGE 1 is perfectly safe AND legal, AND fully warrantied. This would be the biggest 'LIE' I've ever heard. I gotta getta witness, even I can't believe what I'm hearing, repeatedly too,

I just came from the 5-star guy here in Venice. Catback duals: $493.33, Stage I: $429.00, BOV: $69.00.

Installation of all the above: $473.00 (at $79.00 an hour).

Warranted in writing. What's the diference here?

I'm fairly mechanically able: What's the point of them doing it (other than warranty)????????

Just got back from my 5 Star Dealer (picked up the passenger cabin pollen filter as my wife has terrible allergies) and decided to talk to the service manager about Stage 1. He grabbed his #1 tech guy, who happens to own an SRT4 with Stage 1 installed, and this is what they told me:

A very recent discussion this dealer had with DCX revealed that if you buy DCX components and have the dealer install them, it will not void your warranty. These guys claim that they have done many of these and tend to lean in the customer's favor on warranty issues, service, etc. My past experience with this dealer, albeit on much less sensitive issues, seems to support this claim. They are talking about roughly $500 installed for my auto tranny version, but warned me that it will NOT pass California smog tests unless you get a total goofball for a smog tech who doesn't collect all the data he should. Yes, you can say that they're telling me what I want to hear, but I've only had really good experiences at this dealer. Of course, should I get serious about this upgrade I'll press them harder and insist on something in writing, then dig a bit deeper still, but at this point I certainly haven't been swayed away from the idea of adding Stage 1 at some time in the near future.

It occurs to me that DC provides itself several outs with the Mopar Performance Parts Warranty.

"Chrysler, Dodge, and JeepĀ® vehicle and parts warranties are voided if the vehicle or parts are used for competition or if they fail as a result of modification."

"Mechanical and/or electronic performance parts cannot be use used on vehicles used on the streets or highways. These parts may be used only on vehicles used solely in sanctioned off-highway events. No other applications are intended or implied."

If you're fortunate enough to have a dealer that will work with you then you have it made, but if you don't, DC has established a standard they can hold owners to when when something breaks after modifications are performed.

That is double-talk for "AS IS, WITHOUT WARRANTY"

I wonder if much of this stuff is intentionally ambiguous to give dealers leeway to use their own discretion.

No, Chrysler has to honour warranties, to include their "authorised dealers". I purchased my car from a dealer 90 minutes away, in another state, and used local dealer-monkeys for warranty work.

I think "5-star" just means that the dealer has a Chrysler web site, as that is the only difference I can see.

well we dealer monkeys have to have very great service to get and keep five-star and the only way we can do that is by fixing cars well if we mess up or you have to come back a second time or you are some kind of dealer hating costomer you give them a bad survey and they are not five star. you have to maintain levels of customer satisfaction repair quality and many other areas too. the dealer can and will tell you to take your car some place else to get work done, if there is another dealer in the area. i would think that one could find a dealer that they were happy with. i am sorry that most of you have bad dealers but i think if people were a little nicer, not going in there with the "dealer monkey" attitude that would help the outcome. we have sent customers away if they are a major pain. but they can say that the car is very important to them and they want only the best care, and try to work with the dealer not against them. that always helps
