I guess this is where I'll pipe in ! I had crane -10 cams in my '01. They made a "world " of difference in that car ! The car would pull hard from around 1500 to 6200 rpm. It also got better fuel economy , however I broke one stock cam tensioner and bent all my exhaust valves . Then I installed a hydraulic tensioner setup and had cams jump time all in the space of 5 months and 5,000 miles. I'd love to install either crane -10 or -12 in my GT for the change in engine characteristics ,but am gun-shy due to my previous experinces . That is why I've hestitated on Stage 1 also . 7/70 means a lot to me . My friend Phatdad is running crane -10 cams in his Bob Stockum built hahn turbo motor. This is where I respectively disagree with 3Bar the cams would make a big difference here but I don't know if it's worth the risk .

Better yet, look at the results thread:

Like I said, big power claims (Crane said 345 wheel hp?!) actual results less than stock power... Bit of tuning should improve that, but not an extra 100 hp.

3bar I don't believe crane's 345hp claim myself. What I do know is that the pt cruiser 2.4 responds well to crane's -10 which is not as radical as the neon guys tend to go . It gave me a much more pleasurable motor to drive in my '01 . If I could be assured of no short-term timing belt failures I 'd be running a -10 or -12 in my GT. I believe the amount of gain would be in-line with mopar's stage 1 but if done right would cost 2x as much plus I don't know if the stock injectors or pcm would handle/supply the needed fuel. So in fact you might need stage 1`or stage 2 to make the cranes work effectively. That being said the cams I believe would themselves give another 15 to 25 hp.

Just heard there are some tuning issues. Sounds like once they figure it out the car should thro down some impressive numbers. My b/f just moved in with a neon freak so Im sure Ill hear all about it

I keep thinking about 3bar's mention of "Exhaust" improvements. Is there anything less than a "custom fab job" to improve exhaust for the turbo? Does anybody have plans for a header for this car? Sounds like a million seller to me.

There are no "headers" for the GT since the turbo housing is built into the head pipe. Someone did post a pic of a complete head pipe with a new turbo that they are working on for the SRT that looked interesting. Exhaust Depot makes a 3" down pipe for the SRT that he says can be adapted to the GT.

I think cams make a world of difference I rode in Flashbacks car both ways and it was a major diff with cams. I have a auto and Flashys car is 5 speed he is quicker at the start but I can pull him at speed. I feel this is the cams and gears my cams are not at stock settings either.I feel a set of Crane 10 cams would wake a motor up quite a bit but would also need gears to tune them correctly

Lightbulb Re: Crane Cams and Stage Kits

I was just looking through the Crane online catalog yesterday. They make several PT Cruiser cams and one grind is specifically for the turbo engine. I think it's either 193-0012 or 193-0014
