New Graph (thanks Rolo): http://members.cox.net/ballster/Images/dynochart.jpg

Here are the results:

Baseline: Stage1 factory airbox.
185.5HP 259Ftlb torque

K&N Typhoon installed
200.8HP 256Ftlb torque

Macster K&N mod
196.5 258Ftlb torque (improved midrange per comments of tester)

So I'm right where I ought to be, so to speak.

Stage1 235 HP 260Ftlbs torque

K&N upgrade 250HP 256 torque
Macster K&N MOD 249HP 258Ftlb of torque <---- might be the best way to go since I'm going to Stage2.

Another comment from the tester, man if you lean this thing out you could gain XXX more HP. Me "nope I'm staying with the Mopar package."

Final comment from the owner "that thing must be fun to drive."

Me"YUP!"

Todays comments
--------------------------------------------------------

I sitll haven't figured all of this out yet. FYI,I'm new to this and I really don't know what I'm doing compared to the rest of the guys (girls) here. And when you don't know, you just don't know. Now having said that. It appears that I'm experiencing a 21% drive train loss at the wheels. Using this information I then divided the advertised HP by the Wheel HP (WHP) to come up with a factor (1.2682) to use to figure how much HP the engine was generating. So using those figures, it breaks down as follows:

Baseline: Dyno WHP 185.5 Torque 259ftlb Actual HP 235 HP Temp F 56.3 Air Fuel 10 VacBoost(Atmos) 16.8

K&N Typhoon: Dyno WHP 200.8 Torque 256ftlb Actual HP 254.657 Temp F 55.1 Air Fuel 10 VacBoost(Atmos) 18.0

K&N Macster MOD: Dyno WHP 196.5 Torque 258ftlb Actual HP 249.20399 Temp F 55.6 Air Fuel 10 VacBoost(Atmos) 14.6.

Concerns: The boost spikes High of 18.3 with the K&N Typhoon, but it settled down to a spike of 17.5 with the Macster MOD, that I can live with. These readings came from the dyno machine. On the way back home, with the K&M Macster MOD installed I hammered it a couple of times and I got a spike of 15-16Hg, that I can live with. I'm going to stick a vaccum gage on this puppy, reset the ECU and drive normal for a while and see what happens.

Hope this helps

I'm surprised to see the K&N give that much over the Stage I.I would have thought that Mopar developed the Stage I to be optimal with the factory airbox.
I need to Dyno mine before the track opens again to get a baseline on it while it's still stock.I also want to see how much that ice trick is actually giving me.
So Mac, you had to pay by the hour? Here it's usually $65-75 for 3 pulls on the dyno.

How did they explain the torque loss with the K&N ?

Yeah, what's up with that? We've been told the Stage 1 was setup to work best with the factory airbox. [:I]

You're improving airflow, the stock turbo to air box resonator chokes down to less than 2in, the K&N is probably 3in and is smoother.

I was floored by the improvement I really didn't/don't believe it. But like 98 Neon Driver says the K&N actually removes all the restrictions that the factory airbox (by necessity) has.

Hell here a cheap 3 bedroom 2 bath 1500 sqft house costs $300,000. Anyway, for the meager sum of $120.00, I got 1 hour of Dyno time and tuning(2 pulls) I paid $160.00 because I wanted another pull with the macster mod K&N filter. $$$ But it was worth it for the information and education that I received. E.g. a sucker is born .... Naww, but there is another place that has what they call Dyno Day, you can get two pulls , but no tuning for $40.00. I'll hit them up, do 2 pulls and go the end of the line make my changes and pull again.

They didn't and I was lets say still mesmeriszed by all of this, (too stupid to ask). When we had completed the first run, the guy told me that I was running lean. I go $%^&*(, no way these things run rich, check for a Vac leak. After that I was like lets get this over with. But it worked out okay, now that I know what to expect, I can ask the correct questions. I think that loss of torque from the K&M is a spike. I have to look at the print-outs and see what the optimum configuration was. With the K&N at 5654 RPM I had 176Ftlbs of torque, with the macster mod at 5654 Rpm I had 174 ftlbs of torque, with the baseline at 5654 I had 156ftlbs of torque. So there is a lot of information here. I just have to go through it all.

Good question, it made my head hurt.[8D]

Mac I noticed the torque issue last night when you first posted . It puzzled me also but I figured something funny had to happen somewhere still it showed you got exactly what you paid for with stage one . Thanks for sharing you findings!

Here are links to the information that I have from the dyno run

baseline lean : the first run, and I was told that I was running lean (204kb file) http://members.cox.net/ballster/Images/baselinelean.jpg

baseline: the second run (with the vacuum leak fixed) (201kb)
http://members.cox.net/ballster/Images/baseline.jpg

K&N Typhoon: the third pull with the K&N Typhoon installed (375kb)
http://members.cox.net/ballster/Images/K&NTyphoon.jpg

Macster Mod: The final pull with the Macster mod to the K&N Typhoon (396Kb)
http://members.cox.net/ballster/Images/macstermod.jpg

Macster Mod Video: Video of the final pull (1.87MB) I’m sorry it’s the smallest that I could make it and still capture the correct portrayal of the sound that the car was making.

Again I really hope that this stuff helps somebody. I'm still going through and tying things together.

peace

NP, but I have a problem with the graphs they don't match my readouts per say. The fine divisonal graduations in the graph don't make sense. By this I mean the coarse divisions are in increments of 50, and the fine divisions should be in increments of 10 each. Take a look at the 256 Trq figure it should be 280 which matches my readout chart e.g. baseline lean. But from looking at it, the max Torque was 256ftlbs, other than that I'm okay with it. It appears that I wasted money on the 2.5" exhaust so far, or it may have accounted for the reason that the K&N added so much.[:I] My plugs were gapped at .048 I took them out they were all gapped at .050. FYI changing the plugs is scary, because of that sensor on the LH (facing the car) of the manifold, and that sensor that goes into the turbo airpipe.
