BTW so far smoking is not illegal, that's not a fair comparison. Should we all just say "I don't like that law so I'm not going to abide by it! Besides I find it fun to go our and kill people! or rob banks or blow up bridges... as long as I find it fun and don't have a problem with it then the law should not apply to me! No matter what you say, no matter what logic you use, you still can not dispute the fact that street racing is illegal!

if you own a gun, do you shoot it down the street?
A car is a weapon, 3000+ pounds of it. half the bozos racing down the street THINK they know how to control their car. if you want to street race fine. but if you ever hurt anyone i know, i`d bury you. there was a 18yo girl who was killed yesterday trying to pass traffic. She lost control. her 2 friends are in t e hospital, and her brother did ok. a few weeks ago, 2 guys racing flipped a car. one of the passengers was ejected and his friend left him there to die cause he didn`t want to get caught....shall i go on?

The only safe parking lot racing is done with R/C cars. If you want to race the real things, take it to the track. As stated before, street racing kills people.

A car is not a weapon. It can be used as a weapon, in which case that could lead to a vehicular manslaughter charge. A frying pan, in the hands of an irate wife, can be used as a weapon. A car and a frying pan are not weapons, for that is not their primary purpose in their existence and design. You are thinking of a tank perhaps? As for the rest of your "argument", you are making my case, not yours. You are citing examples of stupid people being...well...stupid. Charles Darwin called it "natural selection". Legal or not, we will have stupid people in our midst. Will the law grant these people intelligence? No, replacing good sense with laws only exacerbates the problem. I am tired of people wanting the government to do their thinking for them. |

Point taken.
Stupid people, don't view their vehicle as a potential weapon. Perhaps that is more true to point. it's tough to view this subjective objectively from my perspective, so please forgive my tone. I see a slanted population of MVA's (both perpetrator and victim), as a physician, so it's hard to sit back and say, ok. About 6 months ago 4 teens were killed while racing down a local two lane street. they hit a tree. It's a small community so it hits home to a lot of people. Everyone has a short term memory though.

see they were racing on a two lane street, not out in an open area.
Rolo is hitting most of my point now before I can, so I'll leave most of what i have to say to what he said. My point about smoking was fair...because it's something your doing that's killing people wether it's legal or not. As for street racing being illegal and not using common sense and logic...alot of things that don't need to be illegal...are. Take skateboarding for example...a healthy habit that keeps kids out of trouble...yet the cops give them crap all the time....no matter where they skate....I prolly shouldn't have even used this example...I can see it "that's why they make skate parks!!!" And I'm not comparing street racing to skateboarding, I'm just saying there are things that are illegal that shouldn't be. On that note there's things that are legal that shouldn't be. A car being a weapon...just have to reiterate what rolo said...anything can be a weapon when used right...put it the wrong persons hands and there ya go.

i think we some what agree we do not want to see people die (well wants to see some people die[}
]) we know st racing is illegal and should stay that way we all want more places to race where it is legal be it old airport or what ever. we like racing and want to do it more but be safe.[^]

I think we can all agree, though, that this is all Sakigt's fault. ![]() Personally, I have never street raced nor have I ever drag raced, not outside of a computer game anyway. As far as the law itself goes, I do not agree with street racing specific statutes: our concern is not with street racing, but with public safety. Street racing can be, and has been, done safely. The current wreckless endangerment/criminally negligent laws are fine. My guess as to street racing being a felony: the ability to charge with felony murder rather than manslaughter for stiffer penalties/deterrence. Or, it could be to grease the proverbial squeaky wheel. Parents do not properly raise their kids and wonder why they get themselves killed. They cannot take responsibility so they blame TV, they blame Beavis and Butthead, they blame the neighbours' kid, and they blame the government, and next they will be blaming the manufacturers of performance parts. Remember McDonald's coffee? (An old bat sticks hot coffee between her legs and drives and sues McDonald's because it spilled and burned her--these people make me sick--she was awarded $3 million.) I wanna be an anarchist. Get pissed. Destroy. |
