I also checked on the price and the $1599.00 is correct. And yes the exchange order means you have to send the old one back. Technically you could keep it but you would have to pay even more, approx between $200.00 and $500.00.

Which venues in California do owners of PT Turbos regularly trailer and race their vehicles?
By sending back your stock computer you are stuck with whatever configuration you get (DC says: black, black, no take backs!). If it is streetable and passes sniffer this may be ok, if not, your investment that approaches 10% of the initial cost of the vehicle may leave you with a trailer rig.
When people get into positions that are totally ludicrous, almost always it is hard to imagine the leap from it's origin. This progression is interesting:

1)Step 1: Parts sold as is, no return, no warranty (and no guarantee on how it affects drivetrain warranty).

Answer: We always did it that way. Everyone else is doing it.
Enhansed by: Low price of admission - under $400. A few problems were actually taken care of in a somewhat timely manner.

2)Step 2: Drag out the release and increase the anticipation of the next step. Give only pictures of the "toys".

Answer: Look at all the things you can do with the buttons and switches!
Enhansment: Get commitments from owners well before final price and exchange criteria is established.

3)Step 3: After the fact, introduce the price at FOUR times the price of the Stage 1 even though it is essentially the same parts (enhanced programming, injectors, add in a couple of $25 sensors and a bigger release valve).

Answer: Look at how much horsepower per dollar we are selling.
Embelishment: Countless power hungry Mopar adicts that will pay any price for the next fix shouting come on, let's jump off this cliff with all the others!

Questions that will only be asked later:

How will this affect the trade in of my PT for the next great thing?
What if my State DEQ upgrades their sniffer process, and catches me?
What if I just don't like it? (Drivability issues/Mileage issues)

This appears to be the rollout of a self fulfilling prophecy:
Very few will buy it, so lets make it as profitable as possible!

The price is correct, I think it's very steep.

But I will buy it anyway, I don't care about returning my PCM since I have Stage I and I'll return the OEM PCM and keep my Stage I PCM just in case.

I'd rather buy a proven upgrade even if it's expensive than experiment with cheaper parts that can and will damage something much more expensive. IMHO.

you may not have to exchange pcm, though. stage 1 was supposed to be an exchange order also.

if stage two is actually going to be 1600 dollars they just shot themselves in the foot. I deffinitely will not buy it for that much money. I could care less if it's proven and all that great stuff, it only has a couple more parts than stage 1 and is four times as expensive.....no way!

Well I just got to say that price alone has me running, but if they want one of my two PCM's, they can kiss my grits.

It smacks of bait and switch. We want to control the PCM's !

WHY?????????

To stop us from getting our moneys worth out of our warrenty, thats why!

Protecting the dealers? Screw them, it is a shame we have to swap off Mopar parts for fear of our warrenty anyway. TRD helped so much on my truck, NO issues at dealer whatsoever! It is piss poor is all I have to say.

Are they worried about it because they have no clue to what it is gonna do to the car? Afraid of it pulling axels out then having the dealer pay for it? Blowing trannys or what? If so, do I want it on my daily driver?

Maybe they are following Microsoft's lead, let everyone buy it, and then they really have a beta test bed in place.

There will be other solutions I am sure. A company will crack the chip and then be able to tweak it. Injectors are here, fuel pumps, turbos, the pipeing to fit the bigger turbos, bigger wastgate, are being worked on. It is that damn chip........

Looks like buying a striped 180 hp turbo, do the brakes, struts, spings, sway bars, wheels, exhaust, and then stage 2 would have been cheaper in the long run. Since I have done most to my GT all ready It would have been cheaper, and I could have had more toys, and custom parts and paint! Sorta like a 883 to 1200 conversion on a sportster.

I will just sit this one out for a time....................

Too funny! Look even if it is true, the dealer will have to prove that S2 caused the damage.

A. As far as smog, the actuals for the 03 aren't out yet, per the smog person that I talked to yesterday. Plus these cars run lean. But all this is speculation.

B. If we don't have the toys then our package should $1000.00 or so.

C. If you are running a basic 03 GT 215HP then you will gain 50HP with an S2, for those of us who have S1 we will gain 30.

D. As far as exchanging the ECU, I need to see what they need in exchange. But, I intend to keep my original one. Its the one hole card that I intend to keep, simply because I will be able to put this thing back to the stock configuration in case I get that STI or WRX down to the price where I want it. <----- I really like those cars.

Most of these folks that are posting prices and stuff are new, we should contact tthrift and see what he has to say as far as prices go. He's already stated that he would let us know what the prices were as soon as they became available. Plus if we all do a mass buy at the same time we may be able to get a forum discount from him. Anyway with or without S2 its not the end of the world and all we are doing is speculating. Hell even this post is a speculation.

Lets be patient and "walk down, and get em all."

Let me inject my 2 cents here, welcomed or not...

$400 for Stage 1 is not a "bad" deal. You cannot buy a replacement PCM for $400, let alone add in the fuel injectors and intake gasket (at least for 2003 GTs).

$1600 is a "suggested" retail price for the SRT-4 kit with Turbo Toys (as far as I know). Many dealers and Mopar parts outlets (Koller Dodge, Mancini Racing, etc.) have been selling the Stage 1 kits for ~ 83-90% of the suggested price. I am sure that Stage 2 will have the same level of discounting (I hope so). I am also willing to bet the PT kits are cheaper since we won't have the Turbo Toys.

Now, let's follow the logic: The differences in hardware between the Stage 1 and Stage 2 kits for GTs are the MAP and TIP sensors and the wastegate actuator (both kits have PCMs, injectors, and gaskets.

Should the Stage 2 kit cost $1200 more than Stage 1: No!
Should Stage 2 cost more than Stage 1: YES! You are getting more hardware and performance.

The real debate is: what is a reasonable cost for the Stage 2 kit?

I think $800-$900 is reasonable. (I can hear the boos or crickets now....)
