And if you want a performance upgrade, you can get the STI right from the dealer, full warranty and all, with 300HP.
WRX STi - MSRP $31,120
PT GT - MSRP $26,050

How about we compare apples and oranges there Bro?
Ok, you wanna add in the cost of S3 to get the GT up to 300HP, and then add in the cost of an aftermarket warranty in case some of your high HP mods toast the engine? Now tell me where the prices are?

If I were going to tune a WRX, I'd start at WRXTuners.com, find some people there that knew WTF they were talking about, and either attempt it myself or get a good recommendation for a tuning shop. And you can bet Vishnu wouldn't be high on their list.

Guys...I don't get it! I didn't buy the GT to be the fastest four wheels on the highway. Yeh, I'm interested in S1 or S2 for the kick, but I bought the car cuz it looks cool and will haul almost anything I can throw into it! Have you LOOKED at the WRX?!?! Man I'm old and blind, but that is a "styling" abortion on four wheels! It could spank me all day long from a light or in the curves...it is still butt ugly!

ZZCruzr said it all!

I'd love to own BOTH...my GT and a WRX-Sti. But unfortunatly I haven't won the lottery recently.

The thing is a PT Cruiser is cool and a GT with S1/S2 is WAY TOO COOL! Let the WRX-Sti spank me as I drive to the Coast with a full load of camping gear AND firewood in the back of my car. For me there is nothing more satisfying than passing any other car on the freeway and seeing the expression of the other driver as he ponders how a "slow" PT Cruiser got in front of his car.

By the way, how many WRX's have you seen in parades, car shows, club runs, etc.??? I see PT's doing all the above every couple of months or so. Owning a PT is owning a "life style" it's not just an automobile!

And don't forget listening to the radio and cds, if I'm not mistaken, STI doesn't come with even an AM radio[B)]

You are correct Sir! The STi was so close to being considered a gas-guzzler, and thereby a heavy tax, that they do not come from the factory with a radio, floor mats, or inner door panel insulation. These items have to be added by the dealer or the port.

Most people I have talked to that own a WRX or an STi complain about them being rattle-traps, belying their economy car platform.

Most people hopefully don't by a STI hopeing for a caddy, and the "standard" WRX are just as bad? That is one reason I don't drive a Jeep CJ5 ( the only true american sports car according to Enzo, Because of it no nonsense approach and roll bar) anymore, I guess I am getting old, but I like some comfort now.

Can't agree with the performance contest with the WRX. I've got a friend with an 02 - he's put on a larger turbo, intercooler,bc, exhaust and PCM but nothing to the internals. According to the shop he gets the work done at, he's putting out about 325 hp - and it feels like it. It spools incredibly fast but there is a bit of lag at the bottom end. You're at red line before you know it and with AWD it grips like a slot car. The appearance is ho-hum - part of what kept me from getting one. I like the looks of my GT way better. Fortunately, he shifts slower than my Grandma...and she's been gone for years! [8)]
Folks are getting 100-200hp more then that with similiar pieces on the srt-4..

Just yesterday I had a WRX owner at the local speed shop talk smack to my 5yr old. The guy had his hood up (looked stock to me), his buddies were sitting around.. well my son starts talking to him "we have a turbo, want to see it?", stuff like that. Just a 5yr old boy trying to talk cars with an adult - i thought it was pretty cool. Well, the guy starts talking **** to him! "yeah, well so do I, and I think my car is just a little faster!". I was a little ticked, and told him my car might surprise him. I mMentioned it's the same engine the SRT uses, mentioned some HP numbers... he comes back with "yeah, well it's a lot heavier".. So I threw out the PT's wieght - I only wish I knew what the wrx weighed at the time!!

Jason

The PTGT is not a "lot" heavier than a WRX. See one of my earlier posts in this thread for the weight/hp data for both the PTGT and the WRX. Its a lot closer than you might think.

Well good luck on the tuning. I will do another dyno after I install S2.
