I'm a valet so I drive everything and I can tell you what we are missing in the PT. Handling.

I used to own a 3 series BMW and it was pure joy on the local mountain roads. My brother-in-law had a Pantera and his best bud drives a Porsche Carrera so I've been able to play in the corners a bit too. (you may be the reason I don't like to valet park my cars!!! kidding, kidding, it's a joke) But I tell you what - for an entry fee around 21 grand (a Limited Edition with the Turbo Lite) and with all the mods available for the PT, you can do some pretty amazing stuff. Stage 1 coupled with a good dual exhaust and air intake can net you 250HP. Go with a nice set of coil overs and f/r sway bars plus nice low profile tires and you'd be amazed at how well a PT will handle. Take a look at the panel conversion that PT-Tuning.com is selling: I drove that little beast and it was like a go-kart on steroids. I'll bet it would run circles around my old 3 series without even tryin'. Sure, all those mods will run you maybe $4,500+ but you end up with one heck of a combination of style, speed, handling and yes, even hauling. Mountain bikes in a 350Z or WRX? Forget it. 4 adults comfortably with plenty of tailgate party supplies in either of those? Ain't gonna happen.
Yep, lots of cars can still spank a Stage 1 PT, but lots more can't. Bottom line_____there are tons of great cars out there, each with their own selling points (man, I still WANT a Lotus Esprit V8 Twin Turbo, or a '71 Hemi 'Cuda, or a '64 Lincoln Continental ragtop with the suicide doors - I like all kinds of stuff) but this little PT Cruiser is like a swiss army knife - minus the cork screw.
Time to walk the dog......I'm preachin' to the choir anyway!
