Hey, guys, let's think who are the PT owners out there. How many of them are like us??? The performance Neon crowd is quite large and when the thought of the SRT-4 being built, the Neon crowd started screaming. They were heard, and we and they have our cars. How may stage one kits were sold for the SRT-4 and how many for us??? Anybody care to guess??? I know of about ten SRT-4s in Houston alone, and only one PT-GT with a stage one, and, sad to say, none (PT-GTs and stage one) here in Austin, ours will be the first when I have the money to spend. It all comes down to target market...and boys and girls, we ain't it....

Mike

If your eally think out the components Stage 2 is:

A reflashed PCM from Flight Systems.
A wastegate that fits in the SRT-4.
4 fuel injectors that fits in the SRT-4.

I thought about this in my head for a bit after my Stage 1 had to be reflashed. It took Flight Systems less than a week to get my Stage 1 reflashed and shipped back to me (including the time I shipped it out).

The components for Stage 2 exist already with the SRT-4. The PCM unit seems like a box that they flash when ordered. Is there REALLY a difficulty in delieverying Stage 2? I assume, NO!

However, I would agree that the tranny couldn't take such an increase in power and the only reason why DCX is holding it back.

Not enough market for Stage 1. Funny, some of the people not buying Stage 1 are holding out for Stage 2. Unfortunately, that doesn't include me, becuase I couldn't wait for for more power so I went ahead at bought S1 at the Block Party. Just too bad DC doesn't read these forums.
Here here... I went the same way too. couldn't wait till they got the message. The thing is they would probably sell more stage 1's if they had a stage 2 out.

People like choices. Some will wait for the S2, & some will say... ah it's too expensive for what I want... then they will buy a stage 1 instead.
Now thats how marketing should look at it.

Whoever said that stage 1 or 2 would sell better if they were CARB legal, is partially right. Some people really look for certification to back a purchase.
But let's face it, the SRT crowd could care less about CARB. They just want there cars to go faster. Why else would you take a brand new car with less than 1000 miles on it and mod the hell out of it?

The point is, if you want to make your car faster, you will have to compromise in several area. Smog legal, reliability, and noise come to mind first, but are only the tip of the iceberg.

I guess if you look at the average PT owner, they are driving the naturally aspirated model and happy with it. So to come out with a power system that will be close to $1k might not make sense. Sure the real power monkeies will come out, but I think if MOPAR sells 500 units, it would prove not worth it. And in my opinion, that's about what they would sell in the next 2 years, maybe less.
But that's jst me

Maybe the results they are getting with a PT and stage2 aren't that impressive and they figure we'd be dissapointed with the cost/performance ratio.

Stage 1 may have been deemed good enough for most. I like it.

You forgot:

MAP sensor
TIP Sensor

All of the programming and tuning time that goes into makign the fuel maps correct for the PT. It's NOT the same as the SRT-4, it needs to be calibrated for our engines. The employee cost is probably what is keeping it off the market.

If they are trying to get a CARB EO then they also need to send the vehicle to an independent lab and have it tested. I am not sure how many labs there are out there and they may have to send the vehicle to CA. to have it tested at the one I know of and/or the CARB lab.
I am still hoping!

They have already built & tested the stage 2. thats the info I got from the block party. It's marketing & upper management that are blocking this from happening more. They could sell it with a warning label buyer beware, NOT CARB APPROVED.

I think they are more affraid of extra kits sitting around.

The bigger picture is when they setup a program like this, they alot x # of parts for the kits. if the kits don't sell after a certain amount of time, they get scrapped instead of being broken down from the kits & then get put back into stock.

It all comes down to $$$$. If a program looks like it will not make $$$$, then it gets dropped. what they don'r get is they could set it up to break even or just lose a little $$$$. Then instead look at it as a marketing play.
You might win over more of the younger crowd that could see what you can really do to a PT performanec wise. you'd be suprised how many "kids" I converted after 1 ride in my GT.

Many of them thought is was a slow "granny" car, till I showed them what a sleeper it really is. The thing is a person can buy a used N/A PT for under $10,000 now ADD $3,000 in performance mods & kick the pants off most ricers & still look cool. Besides, they have room to haul a full blown audio/video system & all their friends too. [8]
