Default Gas Milage with Stage I

With gas prices rocketing.. I started looking at my
mileage compared to non-Stage I.

Stock

28MPG Highway
24MPG City

Stage I
22MPG Highway
20MPG City

This is without being a lead foot.
Conservative driving in both highway / city.
Interstate 75 for 220 miles and 10 gallon fillup
easy math on Stage I. But I got 6 more miles per gallon
pre Stage I.

What do you folks get???

Dave
Cumming GA

I've seen as low as 17mpg with S1, but that was shortly after installing it and for some reason my right foot seemed to have swelled uncontrollably! Just the other day I had to round trip to San Diego and managed 24.56mpg at a fairly steady 80mph. I did jump on it a few times to get around some slowpokes at certain freeway transitions, but that's about it.

I installed S1 when my car only had about 3000 miles on it, but I know I never got 28mpg Hwy in stock trim, and never close to 24mpg City. I think you're numbers are pretty good. I wish I had those numbers 'cause gas costs around 50 cents a gallon MORE here in SoCal than you guys are paying in GA.

I wish I knew how you were getting 24 mpg in the city. I live here in S. Jersey, and i go to Philly often, I am lucky if I get 20 mpg. I am thinking your city isn't city at all, not by our standards up here anyways. But hey, more power to ya, less money out of your pocket.[^]

nsanegt03 .. probably right maybe "Xurban" driving would be a better term. Running to friends , malls maybe a half dozen traffic lights 25-55 MPH. For highway driving I fill up at the on ramp area of I-75 and travel 220 miles using the cruise control set for 70 miles per hour. I fill up just as I exit. I've done this a number of times going to my Dad's. Never touching the brake or gas... Auto Pilot Now if I control the gas feed [8)] mileage does vary....

I think the gas is better down there too. I used to live in Jax, seemed my mileage was a bit better there. How much gas do you have left at 220 miles when you fill up? I am at 260 usually at a quarter tank or just under on the highway. I have never done better than 315. Happy driving down south, I miss it down there.[?]

Stage 1, 5-spd, here. We live in a small town so our mileage is mostly highway driving. We average 27.5 MPG and that will usually have a couple full-throttle downshifts to 3rd as I pass a vehicle or two.

The majority of posts I have read on this subject on this and other PT Cruiser forums in recent months have indicated that the installation of STAGE 1 usually improves gas mileage--from 2 to 3 mpg--depending on driving habits. Is this correct [:I] or are there some other considerations such as type of exhaust, CAI, up-pipe, down-pipe, BOV, wiring, etc., that make the difference? Thanks.

Stock I get 18 to 20 around town and 22 to 24 on Highway. Dont think stage 1 or 2 would be much worse maybe better!!

Gary04GT,

I didn't notice much of a change on my 5-spd. car as I was getting around 27-28 MPG (highway) before the install of Stage 1. Actually I installed the K&N drop-in and Stage 1 at the same time.
