Default "Quick Learn" for STAGE 1 Autostick???

My dealer will soon be installing STAGE 1 in my 04GT. It is my understanding that a "quick learn" of the Autostick transmission is needed before everything is working correctly and to achieve optimum performance. What exactly is this? Does my dealer do it during/after installation or is it something that I need to do while driving the car (50-200 or so miles) after the dealer has completed the work? [:I] Thanks.

Gary, from the MOPAR installation instructions for Stage 1:

"MOPAR STAGE 1 TRANSMISSION QUICK LEARN PROCEDURE
NOTE: With your new Mopar PT Turbo Stage 1 Upgrade
kit, you also receive new transmission calibrations
(automatic transmission only). After installing your
Mopar PT Turbo Stage 1 Upgrade Kit, you must perform
the following transmission quick learn procedure in
order to establish a baseline for shift quality. FAILURE
TO PERFORM THE FOLLOWING QUICK LEARN
PROCEDURE CAN RESULT IN POOR SHIFT QUALITY
AND POSSIBLE TRANSMISSION DAMAGE. YOUR
CAR CAN BE DRIVEN PRIOR TO PERFORMING THE
FOLLOWING PROCEDURE, HOWEVER, NO WIDE OPEN
THROTTLE (WOT) UPSHIFTS SHOULD BE DONE
UNTIL THIS PROCEDURE HAS BEEN PERFORMED.
Once you have performed the following procedure
and established a baseline, shift quality will continue
to improve as the transmission control module
continues to “learn” your particular driving style.
• Allow the transmission fluid to reach normal operating
temperature. To do so, apply the parking brake and let
the engine idle in neutral until the engine cooling fan
has cycled (turned on and off) one complete time.
• Perform 15 launches from 0 to 50 mph at 25% to 50%
throttle and brake lightly to a complete stop following
each launch. This will address the 1-2 and 2-3 upshifts,
as well as the 2-1 coastdowns as you brake to a stop.
• Next, drive at 40 mph and tip into the throttle 50% to
100% until you achieve a 4-3 or 4-2 kickdown. Perform
this 10 times.
• After these first 25 shifts, the quick learn procedure
should be complete. As mentioned above, shift quality
will continue to improve following the quick learn
procedure. Without these first 25 shifts, however,
your car could have poor shift quality."

Make sure you talk to your dealer about this very specifically. If you go to http://www.mopar.com/pdf/7256_PTInstructionSheets.pdf you can print out the entire instructions. These instructions are for an '03 so the part about installing injectors does not apply to your '04 model. Nonetheless, the tranny quick learn is extremely important. My dealer told me that they would program the tranny and knew nothing about the quick learn procedure. One of the many reasons I didn't buy from them, or let them install it. Whether the dealer does it or you do it, just make absolutely certain it gets done.

Does this have to be done on auto stick cars when replacing the intake or exhaust as well? Or just for the chip replacement? When I install my intake I know I have to rest the comp... just wondering [:I][:I]

As far as I know it's only when installing S1. I've put on 03baggedturbo's UPC/intake kit, which showed a 30HP gain on the dyno using my car, and I did NOT redo the tranny quick learn. No ill effects.

Still, I can't say I haven't thought about it! Man, I wish 3barboost was still hanging around here sometimes.

the quicklearn should be done when installing the controller the tech would just hook up the drb3 hit quicklearn the trans will shift through the gears snd learn cvi's. cvi's are clutch volume index it tells the controller how much fluid is needed to apply the clutch. when he is done go beat it all you want. the quicklearn does what it says the trans would learn the cvi's by shifting but you have to drive nice, this just tells the controller where things are at.

it only has to be done when the trans is rebuilt or has parts recplaced or the controller is replace. it is not needed when intake or exhaust is replaced.

Thanks for the feedback....coming from a DCX tech this means a lot! I wonder why the instructions don't mention hooking up the drb3 (whatever that is?!) but are so specific about doing it on the road. Maybe my local dealer isn't so dumb after all. (still, they insisted S1 for an '04 included new injectors)

Well I asked this when 3-Bar was here and he did not know, but I will ask again. So when we disconect our battery, does the Quick Learn have to be done again? I wish I knew this answer for sure, as it is a HUGE pain in the ass to do.

I'm with LAF on this one. I also asked this same question a couple months back but no one seemed to know if we need to redo the Quick Learn after resetting the PCM. [:I]

Aloha,
Mark

Battery disconnect does not require relearn.

I "heard" that the dealer can flash the quick learn instead of going out and doing it. Anyone else hear konw of this?
