Good links PTGT_Boy! Looking at this particular post by 3bar within the 41TE Transmission thread I still get the impression Stage 1 is safe for the auto box:

I think we're saying different things here.

Peak torque is what pops trans. If you get to the level of making 340+ ft-lb at the crank (possible with stage 2 because of the 3 bar MAP and TIP), something is gonna go. I really doubt it'll be half-shafts that go first. If you are making less power than torque, and the torque stays under 280 ft-lb ish nothing in the trans is gonna get hurt.
Will your results on the dyno going to be similar to the offsets you saw with Stage 1? Probably. Will you make 300 bhp at the wheel without doing something to the trans? Maybe.
Bold above was added by me and it is, I believe, the important point here. Stage 1 meets both of his criteria here - less power than torque and torque below 280. Stage 2, if we ever get it for the PT, may (and I stress MAY) be an issue.

So the info on the Mopar site is wrong? From what you are saying is that the listed S1 upgrades only apply for the 03 models. 04 will only get the PCM. If thats the case, it should be the same price should it? (i have an 04)
Not so much wrong as incomplete. No doubt the site could use some cleaning up! You may have noticed that the site contradicts itself in one aspect: one area says S1 gives 235HP, another claims 240HP. The site does not specifically mention that the '04 upgrade is PCM only, but it is the presence of the Stage 1 flow rate injectors in the stock '04 engines that gives the '04s 220HP stock compared to the '03s 215HP stock. Make sense?

If you look at the install instructions PDF file you'll see where they talk about installing the new injectors that come with Stage 1. If you get a Stage 1 upgrade for an '04 car the instructions that come with it make no mention whatsoever of the injectors. And why should they - Stage 1 for '04 doesn't include the injectors 'cause we've already got them (and the extra 5HP the provide)!

As for the price.....yeah, I think the '04 should be a cheaper upgrade than '03 since we don't get new injectors, just makes sense to me. Still, the website quotes $429 for the ATX S1 upgrade but you can get it for almost $100 less than that these days. Bottom line, DCX "suggests" a retail price and it's up to us to either pay to play, or find a way to get a deal, or stay stock.

Not a bummer at all, actually a good thing when you know what we now know! Contact tthrift - do a member search on this forum - he's the parts guy at a DCX dealership in Virginia. That's where I got mine and I couldn't be happier with his service, attitude, price, honesty, etc. Install it yourself in a few minutes and have a ball!

just to throw a stone into the water, I would think that the gt lite would need the larger injectors of the stage 1 for use of the S1 mod cuz IMHO I would think that the gt lite would come with smaller sized injectors because of less need.

Cheaper to build with just one set of injuectors to install. They would have to have separate runs for each engine. The computer just compensates with a smallerr pulse width.

And that stone makes no ripple.....I have the '04 Turbo Lite and the upgrade was still just the PCM. I'm running the same 1/4 mile times as others with full GT's equipped with S1 so evens the playing field. And talk about bang for you buck! 180HP to 235HP for just over $300!

Mike, that's a good bang for the turbo lite but what about the o4 GT? Would I see much increase because of the PCM?[:I]

John, look at my first response in this thread where I copied and pasted text from the Mopar website. Stage 1 is just about a horsepower boost, it's sort of an overall driveability enhancement. Most magazines I've seen show 1/4 mile times of 15.7 seconds for a PT GT automatic, but with S1 most people are dropping that to 14.8 - 15.1 range, maybe even a bit quicker, even without additional mods (OK, maybe an exhaust). I haven't heard anyone yet say they installed S1 and didn't like it or think it was worth it.
