Default 2.4HO & stage1

Ok, trying to decide if a stage1 will add anything to my DC3 2.4HO turbo. Dealer here is out to lunch. Need advice and then maybe some insight on how to preform this myself if it looks possible. Love what I have now just want to grin a little more.

Hey, BACKinMOTION, I've not stopped grinning since STAGE 1 was installed in my 2.4HO turbo car just over two weeks ago. The "S1" turbo upgrade is something else, AND, to top it all, my gas mileage is improving. At 7800+ miles, my car's overall performance just keeps getting BETTER! [^] Go for it!!! [|)] [8D] [?]

Nice! I am going to get the S1 next month for her birthday. Where is the best place to get it at? Its the autostick BTW. How long in advance do I need to order. I have read some things about it taking awhile to arrive.[:I]

Stage 1 is about more than a simple HP boost, although on a Turbo Lite car the increase in HP is simply amazing! Overall driveablity is improved: better throttle response, etc.

Taken from the Mopar website:

Stage 1 Calibration Features

Manual Transmission
- Increased WOT and part throttle boost
- Enhanced 1st gear boost schedule for a higher performance launch
- Optimized calibration for the MOPAR blow off valve conversion kit
- Improved turbo response
- Boost hold feature during WOT shifts
- Soft rev limiter

Automatic Transmission
- Increased WOT and part throttle boost
- Optimized calibration for the MOPAR blow off valve conversion kit
- Improved turbo response
- Performance optimized transmission calibration

My bonehead dealer told me it would take at least 4 weeks to get it, plus they told me that it included injectors and PCM for an '04 turbo. Wrong on all counts: I got mine in about a week from a dealer on the other side of the country! '03 cars get new injectors, PCM, and upper to lower intake manifold gasket. '04 cars get the PCM only. If you have an '04 you can install it yourself with a 10mm wrench in about 30 minutes. I know 'cause I did it. Yes, it works on a Turbo Lite. I know 'cause I did it.

The power boost and other enhancements for Stage 1 defintely helps in the performance category. However, my concern is not the engine (since that thing is built like a rock), but the transmission. I believe 3BarBoost left a nice thread somewhere in regards of the transmission life.

In a way, your trading performance with your transmission life with Stage 1 and Stage 2. Choose wisely in what you want out of your PT.

Sure the more HP and more importantly torque you put through your tranny the shorter life it will live, but I dont think stage 1 or evern stage 2 makes that much more torque to worry about. It is kidnda like climbing a Mt to get closer to the sun!

My understanding is that S1 will give you around 260ft-lbs of torque and even the auto tranny can handle 300ft-lbs. Keep in mind that unless you always drive at WOT you won't be putting a ton of torque to your tranny anyway. I just don't see how, in normal daily driving, you'll be shortening the life of the tranny by going S1.

So the info on the Mopar site is wrong? From what you are saying is that the listed S1 upgrades only apply for the 03 models. 04 will only get the PCM. If thats the case, it should be the same price should it? (i have an 04)

That's correct. When I ordered my S1 for my 04GT I told the Parts Manager it would be a new PCM without any larger injectors as these were already installed on the 2004 GTs...AND, that's exactly what was received. So, go figure...03 model owners get "a good deal" and 04 people get "a bad deal" [V] and Mopar makes a nice profit on both S1 "kits". But, guess that's life in the big city..."If you wanna play [8)] you gotta pay!" [:0] [B)] [?]
