Don't blame the Mexican people or US companies for taking full advantage of what NAFTA has to offer them. They're not doing anything that is against the law. Our government allows two trucks on the same highway from different countries to abide by different rules. Yeah, NAFTA makes alot of sense and is good for the American people. Isn't that what we were told? They couldn't be wrong or lying could they?
Macster hit it on the head. The blame lies in DC.

Macster,

Thanks![^]

I will reveal myself now,

I am Puerto Rican and a US citizen since birth (PR has been part of the USA since 1889). I am also a member of the US Military (USAir Force) and a Proud veteran of two Wars in the middle East. I have been all around the world representing the USA and always speaking English instead of the "Native" Spanish. I studied in Fully bilingual schools here in the Island and My three year old is following my steps. He can speak already in spanish and in English.

I am constantly working in "Secret" Wars against drugs coming to the USA in South america. In jungles that warlords are offering One Million dolars for whoever Takes an american to their "Cartel". Protecting the southern borders of the USA from Ilegal imigrants and drugs. But still, I say I am an American and proud of it.

I have lost friends in wars, lived in tents and worked 12 hours in a heat of over 125 degees with only a bag in a pole for a shower. Geting planes ready in freezing temp so they can fly a coffin with an american flag over it for an awating family member in the USA. You can't help touching that flag and think about the person inside that gave his or her life for the liberty that the flag represents. The same liberty many people take for granted. I get charged up every time I am in the continental USA and go into a Walmart and get a pat in the back and hear the words "we stand behind you" or "I back you up 100%" or even a "Thanks".

I guess after all this writing I want to say that I don't tolerate when people say they are better than someone else. The best thing about this and all forums is that nobody knows exactly who is posting and their background.

Somebody posted sometime back a letter from Robin Williams saying that you need to speak the language or get out... I didn't mind the letter but what got me a little off was seeing people cheering him.

I thought this editorial was about stage two but I didn't see anything about stage 2.
I understand that you where talking about the polution that some places are allowing and you are stuck in a state where polution control is stronger, but the delivery was bad.

I guess you will have to write one about Germans and most european countries for not having strong polution controls in high performance vehicles. Although it is in Europe it still affects the entire world and there is no way out of it.

Live and let Live. Maybe the "Truckers" spend all their money in trying to keep the trucks runing and get some food to their families. I have been places where a run down truck is the only mean of income for a family. If you restrict their only way of getting money, They are as good as dead.

I am a Puerto Rican, a "Latino" but most of all I am an American.

We hear anybody that post their opinions and discuss them but always in a respectfull matter. I love reading diferences of opinion but not when it gets personal.

I don't want to agravate anyone here. But please, dont stereotype and don't asume just because you don't know all the facts.

I get many e-mails from people asking for help with their cars. I give them the info and love to recieve their replies saying that it was helpful. That makes me feel great. I am sharing the information that I have gathered and helping others.

BTW, did you know that the engine inside our beloved PT was designed in Mexico and refined in germany... It originally produced 245HP but the emission laws bumped it down to 215 and 220 on 2004. Not all the great things come from the States. That is why open comerce is great!

I will get down from the soapbox now.

Ian

Now that I am back to my normal self,

I want to apologize to anybody that may have been ofended by my "Steam Blowing" post

I don't think it was too ofencive what Kirby wrote. It was just a small drop in a glass full of old statements that I have heard or read before.

Everybody has their right to their own opinon and nobody can deny you that right. It is just that I have head so many comments that are just lack of knowing all the facts.

My post was not a slam of good people trying to make a living for their families in our border countries. It seems that some would like to twist it that way to suit their own adgenda.

My gripe is with the our rules keeping the Stage Two from release have no basis in reality. When WE (the U.S.)sign agrements that make our own citizens into victims. It just gets absurd.[8)]

This thread is so long I didn't read most of it, but I read enough.

Mexican 18 wheelers do not enter US soil most of the time, they only drop the container at the border, then another truck crosses the border with the container and finally a US truck moves it around in the US.

What's the connection between this and S2? If any.

Yes your PT's are built here in Mexico, yes some of you "love to hate" latin people, but think about it, the US simply wouldn't work like it those without the latin community.

Very conflicted here. I, like most Americans, like less expensive goods. I doubt however, that we are going to see a dramatic drop in the cost of anything with the Mexican truckers coming up here.

I have also traveled a lot through Mexico. I have driven several times to vacation in many towns along the Gulf and the Pacific when I was younger and I love the country. I will say that the truckers down there drive like the devil is chasing them. They tailgate and try to intimidate any cars on the road. I really don't want them driving like that on the roads up here. And yes, their trucks really belch out the smoke.

Our truckers need to feed their families and earn a living based on the economics of THIS country. I am really uneducated on this. Is there any regulation on shipping fees? I am the last person to suggest more government, but how do we save this vital American industry?

WTF people, calm down. Nowhere in Kirby's message did I see him slamming latinos or talking about Mexicans as "bad people."

He pointed out that the restrictions placed on Mexican vehicles in terms of emissions, safety, and maintenance are not as high as here in the states. If a semi truck driven by a US company gets into an accident here because of lack of proper maintenance, that company can be sued under US laws and nailed for a heck of a lot of money. Can the same be said for a truck running under a Mexican company?

This was a STUPID thing to do. It endangers American lives, it pollutes American air, and it's gonna put the hurt on a big part of our economy, trucking.

But hey, if it means you save five bucks on a DVD player, I guess it's worth the additional risk, huh?
