Have to agree with crazyjoe on this one. Basically, Kirby who lives in Cal. was peeved that he has to follow the rules, which the gov't set, then the gov't lets others break those same rules in his own back yard. But at the same time as others here have said, forums contain peoples of all kinds and one must be very careful what they write on the forum because of this. NAFTA will get bombarded from the U.S. trucking industries if they allow others to get away without passing smog/safety regulations.

Who says you have to be careful here? This is AMERICA freedom to voice an OPINION. If someone gets their feelings hurt then is the time to make amends, but until then, expressed opinions are a freedom we AMERICANS enjoy.

I think it is ludicrous that our Government would allow this. We are EPA'd to death in everything we do, yet they will allow this garbage to happen. Wait until one of these legislative idiots family member is hurt by one of these rigs. It just does not make sense to me that we would allow any country to drive on our roads that are not held to the same standard as we are. Of course the logic of our legislators has boggled my mind for so long. that nothing surprises me.

WTF people, calm down. Nowhere in Kirby's message did I see him slamming latinos or talking about Mexicans as "bad people."

He pointed out that the restrictions placed on Mexican vehicles in terms of emissions, safety, and maintenance are not as high as here in the states. If a semi truck driven by a US company gets into an accident here because of lack of proper maintenance, that company can be sued under US laws and nailed for a heck of a lot of money. Can the same be said for a truck running under a Mexican company?

This was a STUPID thing to do. It endangers American lives, it pollutes American air, and it's gonna put the hurt on a big part of our economy, trucking.

But hey, if it means you save five bucks on a DVD player, I guess it's worth the additional risk, huh?

It’s funny this is usually the way that these kinds of topics go. Yeah we as Americans have rights and course no one can tell what to do. But, there is a time and place for everything and also a cost for doing so. In this case, if we by exercising our rights make the very ones who help us feel uncomfortable, then we are the ones who lose, and who are less civilize. If we are going to repay their kindness by discussing things that make them feel uncomfortable, then we are in sad, sad, sad shape. Also, by making them feel uncomfortable we suffer, not them. We will have to spend the money and the time to figure out things that we would normally get for free. E.g the airbox mod, boost controller hook-up, what wire to connect your EBC to in order to get the signal for the RPMs, the wastegate install, motor mount install, how to run low 14’s etc, we will have to pay for things like that. Who is going to step forward and spend their own time and money to do those kinds of things and post pictures for us for free? We are getting a lot of free information complete with images and people that we can email our questions to, again we are getting all of this for “FREE.” I don’t know about you but I like free. In this case I will talk about NAFTA or whatever the FTIS somewhere else, just to make sure that I don’t make these guys feel uncomfortable, but that’s my dumba**. Do whatever the heck that you want. But when these guys are not around to help us for “free” then we have only ourselves to blame. So, go ahead, say what you want, like you want, if anyone doesn’t like it, who cares?

To Ian, I would like to say that those who serve now model themselves after those like yourself. I should know. I served in the U.S. Army for six years... woulda been 20 but a year ago this week an small group of Iraqis decided to fire three RPG's into our sleeping quarters. Thanks to them, I now have no eardrum in my left ear and a few "little" scars. The higher ups said I could ride a desk or take a medical so here I am. As for RD, I'm proud of your son and every other American serving anywhere in the world, but as someone who's been there, in my eyes, the true heroes are you and all the other family members (i.e., wives, fiance's, sons, etc.) back home supporting there loved ones. We all receievd training to do our jobs in a hostile environment. Those family members received no such training. No one taught my wife to be Mom AND Dad and explain to my lil ones that Daddy may not be back. To all the family members of our brave Armed Services: You are our heroes and we could not make it through a day of this Hell without your support. Thank you for your time. I know this was WAY off subject but I just needed to let y'all know how we on the other side feel.

This could not have been better stated, for those who do not agree with what we are doing in other countries, thats fine, but DO NOT BLAME THOSE WHO SERVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No I have nothing to gain, I have NOT served, but all this BS that they have to listen to is wrong. If you want to protest thats fine, give Bush or anyother leader all the h-ll you want, but show respect to those who have and will put their lives on the line for your freedom to protest.
Thanks to everyone who has served to give use the freedoms we have.
Tom

This is why we should stick to discussing PT Cruisers on this forum.

Agreed!!!!
This went from a legitimate concern for USA drivers of all Race, Creed and Color, getting hosed by our legislators. To Discrimination, not supporting our troops, blah, blah. It was just information on one of the many small things that happen in this country most of us don't get. We feel like we are taking a hosing because what is good for the goose, should be good for the gander. I still think it sucks that there is not a standard for EVERYONE.

Waste of time.

Waste of bandwidth.
