Default STAGE 1 may mean better fuel economy!

With nearly 2000 miles on STAGE 1 my car "really rocks" [?] --absolutely flawless performance and outstanding drivability--with a dividend of [u]slightly</u> improved fuel economy. [8D] Depending on the weather, road conditions, and driving style, it appears as though gas mileage (using exclusively Chevron Supreme 92 octane gasoline) is anywhere from 0 to 12% better than before S1 was installed. IMHO, it is a real shame that DC does not offer the STAGE 1 Turbo Upgrade as an option when ordering a new PT Cruiser turbo model from the factory [V] as the company would increase profits and have more happy customers! [8)]

What are your thoughts? What has been your experience regarding fuel ecomony since STAGE 1 was installed on your car? Curious minds want to know!

My thoughts, SII! I have not actually documented it but it sure seems that I go farther on a tank of gas, If I can keep my foot out of it.

Do you think it may be the smoother transmission shifts? At very low parking lot speeds my car used to clunk around the gears...now its smooth as a babys...face.

The improved and smoother transmission shifts are no doubt helpful.

Gary, I thought about geting the Stage I and my mileage went up to 17.5, the same as my V8 Explorer! Maybe if I get the Stage I I can get the mileage higher. I do have a clunky tranny, too. [8)]

I've got S1 on my Turbo Lite and 03baggedturbo's full VAK intake system on it as well. The VAK is a fairly recent addition, at least with the full open intake portion installed - I've had the uppercharge pipe on for a while now.

Anyway, I had to see a client about 100 miles away last Thursday and had plans on going to the track on Saturday night. I was sort of surprised at how much gas I still had in my tank after the 200 mile round trip Thursday, and didn't use the car at all on Friday. I got in 4 runs at the track (my best time being a 14.873 @ 90.54mph!) and, get this.....my total mileage for the 200 mile round trip freeway time PLUS the track time was....drum roll please....

20.08mpg!!!

I really wanted to check my mileage with just the freeway driving but I didn't want to make my track runs with a full tank. Pretty cool, huh?[8D]

John, I would recommend you consider installing S1 primarily for increased performance/power, improved driveability, and more driving FUN [8)]--NOT for better fuel economy. However, be happy if your gas mileage improves after S1 installation, but, consider this just a nice little "plus"! [|)] However, if your wife is having some reservations about you spending more money on another MOD then "push" the improved S1 gas mileage thing--it works! [?]

Yeah, it did, but I'm actually impressed that I still managed 20mpg including track time!
