Default Looking for dealer to install S1

I'm planning to order S1. I would like to have it installed by a dealer. This way, if I have a problem with the install or the car, I can go to one place. Instead of the dealer telling me it's the person who installed S1 causing the prob and then the person installing the mod telling that it's the dealer's problem. I live in the Chicago area and I am willing to drive a couple of hours (Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, & Michigan) to a good Chrysler dealer to have this done.

Since you have an '04 it would extremely difficult to screw up the install on S1 - there are a handful of bolts that hold it down, and 4 color coded electrical connections that plug into it. If you've never wielded a wrench in your life you can install S1 on an '04 in about 30 minutes. If you have held a wrench you can probably do it in 15 minutes.

The real critical part comes when doing the auto tranny quick learn procedure. It's very straightforward, just a series of part throttle acceleration runs outlined in the instructions. If you don't do it, you'll eat your tranny.

Cool. Then I guess I can handle it my own. But I thought it also required the following:
(4) 527cc/min* Fuel Injectors
*Note: Static fuel flow rated at 58 psi.

(1) MOPAR Performance Powertrain Control Module (PCM)

(1) Upper to Lower Intake Manifold Gasket (for 2003 models)

I can handle the PCM swap, but fuel injectors...I'll pass.

BTW, where is the PCM located at? What does it look like? Can anyone provide a pic?

2004 only require the PCM change,,,,,,, it's on the firewall,,, in front of the driver. Behind the air filter,,, from the front .

GT Kruzr is right, for the '04s the upgrade is just the PCM. The higher flow fuel injectors come standard on the '04s, which is why they have the extra 5HP over the '03s.

Since Mopar redid their website it's a bit tricky to find the PDF file with the install instructions, but I happen to have a copy HERE You probably want to right click the link and choose "Save as" to download it.

These instructions are for the '03 so they show the fuel injector swap, but it has drawings of the PCM and its location on the firewall. The last page outlines the auto tranny quick learn procedure. You will recieve instructions with the PCM that are specific to the '04 so you shouldn't have to print these out.

Thanks. The PDF will help alot. A few more questions:
According to the instructions...
Quote:
quote:Perform 15 launches from 0 to 50 mph at 25% to 50%
throttle and brake lightly to a complete stop following
each launch. This will address the 1-2 and 2-3 upshifts,
as well as the 2-1 coastdowns as you brake to a stop.
I'm assuming I should hit the pedal, but only stepping down on it at about 25% to 50%?

Quote:
quote:Next, drive at 40 mph and tip into the throttle 50% to
100% until you achieve a 4-3 or 4-2 kickdown. Perform
this 10 times.
I'm assuming driving the car at 40, then hitting the pedal to the floor? Should I gradually get up to the 40 mph, then hit the pedal?

Quote:
quote:NO WIDE OPEN THROTTLE (WOT) UPSHIFTS SHOULD BE DONE
I'm not sure I understand the meanind of "Wide Open WOT Upshifts". Does this mean not to put it in autostick and let it hit close or above 5K before upshifting until the Quick learn is completed?

Sorry for my ignorance, but as you can see, I know nothing about cars

WOT is with the gas pedal to the floor, hence the throttle is wide open feeding fuel. At these points, boosting is more aggressive woth S1 and you can actually hold WOT for longer. Stock PCM pulls you down after only a sec or two.
If you have an 04, S1 install is so easy. It requires very little know how to unscrew 4 bolts holding the PCM to the firewall. I have an 03, so I had to pull the engine apart and install the injectors. I had never (i mean never) done anything like that before and was able to do the install with no difficulties.
Save your money and do it yourself.

No problems buddy. You've basically answered your own questions....and you thought this was all new to you!

Specifically, on your Q1: yes, you've got it exactly right

On your Q2: yep, accelerate normally to 40mph then accelerate hard enough to force a downshift from 4 to 3 or 4 to 2. Just like the instructions say, tip into the throttle, don't fully mash it down! Still, you'll have to be aggressive enough to force the downshift.

On your Q3: again, you're spot on. Do not, as in NOT, NEVER, DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT, not let your car shift under WOT until you've completed the quick learn. Yes, WOT is Wide Open Throttle, AKA go pedal pinned to the floorboards, standing on the gas, pick your favorite phrase. Once you've completed the quick learn you can keep your foot firmly planted on the floor - the car will pull to redline and upshift to the next gear. Feel free to do this after you've done the quick learn - but NOT before. I think that's pretty clear, don't you??

And there's no need to apologize for asking questions - ya gotta start somewhere!

Hey, thanks again! As you can see, I want to make sure I understand everything and do everything correctly. I don't want to screw up my tranny.
