What I did to play it safe was actually did the PCM swap on the shoulder of a highway on a Sunday afternoon (less traffic). A cop stopped to see if I was ok and I replied that I was just replacing a broke hose, so he went off on his merry way. I did the install at the highway so I could immediately start with the quick learn.

Of course, you can do the PCM swam in your garage, but make sure you drive nice & easy (no WOT) until you get to your destination.

If you have a manual tranny, you can skip the quick learn test. [8)]

You changed it on the shoulder of the road. How long did it take??

It should have taken me less than 30 minutes, but probably took about 45. First, when I removed the screws, I missed one and I was wondering why I couldn't remove the bracket holding the PCM. Then when I was putting the screws back on, I had 2 different sets and the wrong set wasn't going in all the way. I didn't want to overtighten since I was afraid of damaging the PCM. I finally figured it out and got the screws in. Also, even though I read the instructions several times & almost memorized them before the install, I read them again to make sure I didn't read anything incorrectly.
