Default Tranny Learn

What exactly happens inside the tranny if you fail to do the "learn" after installing the S1

"Things go bump in the night" I guess. Not sure, I did the quick learn routine. Can't be good not to.

Since I have a 5 speed I can only imagine that with the auto you are teaching the computer when to shift. If the auto tranny doesn't learn the proper way it will shift incorrectly and cause damage. I've heard of one guy that failed to do the tranny learn and his tranny did break.

I don't have the answer, but I know how to find it:

Step 1. install S1
Step 2. don't do the Quick Learn
Step 3. ask the tech at the dealership to describe in detail what happened inside the tranny

Personally, I'm less concerned about what happens as I am with the fact that it will happen. Do not skip this procedure, especially since it's so easy. I did mine myself, have been to the track a half dozen times, have driven my car plenty hard on the road, and not the slightest hint of a problem in 7500 miles.

Here is my story... I installed stage one with a friend at his gas station, he hooked up my car to his computer to check it out before during and after install to see what stage one did. He noted that a bad tranny fuild pump code went off, he asked if I was every low on fuild, I was and he said thats what is was.. running on low fuild. After install he was shocked at the numbers that the stage one change. and said that the quick learn he could do on the computer... Well one month later the tranny, she was a broke... I took out the PMC (?) and put the old one back in.. Funny when we did the car ran as if nothin was wrong for about 200 feet than sliping..ect we drove that poor car hard so that the new pmc could note all that was wrong... drove the car to dealer in "limp" mode- 2nd gear also hard, thinking more that is wrong less likey for a rebuild - and get a new tranny. left the car and a day later dealer ask about stage one ?? whats that??? acting if i lived under a rock... But the sticker on back gave it away.. cried and told him to hook it up to his computer and see.... I know he knew.. but told me that a rep for corp told he to replace it... I also noted that the replaced tranny cooler???
and not that i think that the dealers would do work they don't have to BUT.. my light was out on my sun viser.. they charger corp for a new viser.. not just a bulb??
My 2 cents... DO the Quick Learn..for the 10 minutes it take (quiker then me typing this!!) it is well worth IT!

the trans relearn is REQUIRED! This trans has solenoids to operate the shifts, not the valve body of transmissions past. When it is starting with a new memory, the amount of fluid to each servo (the part that makes things happen) is measured. This allows the trans control module to know how much is right, and it will measure (by the amount of fluid required) how much is needed and what wear is happening. Think of how much force is needed to pick up a baby and how much to pick up a 5 year old. If you use the wrong force, damage results. If you don't do this, the trans does not 'know' if it's picking up a baby or a 5 year old.
