Default stage1 vs boost controler

could somebody please explain the benifits of going with a stage1 vs pumping up the boost with a boost controler. Or is it the other way around?

there are better tuned timing/fuel maps with the S1.

EDIT: sorry, didnt realize that I didnt answer your question[B)]
just going with S1 will not only up your power, but do it safely with the correct fuel. Just blindly cranking up a boost controller is like throwing matches at a gasoline can...one day it will blow. Before turning up boost, you need to see a/f ratios and at least know what levels you are currently at. Turbos and fuel systems have limits and going past them can lead to some pretty bad stuff.

if you dont have stage 1, and use a boost controller, you will have to deal with the engine going in Safe mode. ( from what i understand)

It's better to use Stage 1 and a boost controller. Stage 1 has the benefit allowing you to crank to higher boost levels, the Stock ECM will throw a fit if you try to crank anything higher than 15psi.

Of course, visit the dyno to make sure your not running lean.

What they said...
Also with S/1 you could plug & play without having to add on gauges to monitor everything. A boost gauge is an absolute minimum for a boost controler.
