It's great to hear no one is having any problems w/s1 & smog. DC just didn't want to spend a few extra bucks getting the cert.
I don't think anything in the s1 pcm has been "modified" since it is a whole new program, not a "modified" program. IMO, there wouldn't be any need to have both programs(stock & s1) on board with s1 since you have to buy a whole new unit and you would have your stock unit on stand by in a "just in case" situation...[:I]

You are correct that the entire PCM is replaced and thus you have a "new" program. I am not sure what you mean by "I don't think anything in the S1 PCM has been "modified"." The PCM monitors hundreds of parameters from the vehicle and makes adjustments based on those parameters. The S1 PCM uses a different set of values to determine how the engine responds to those parameters. There are also a number of tests that the PCM makes that can trigger error codes. It appears that the S1 does not comply with ALL the required EPA monitoring. DC never indicated that they would even try to get CARB certification on S1. There was an indication by some of the MOPAR engineers that they were going to try to get CARB certification on S2 for the PT. What happened we will probably never know but it appears that they just scrubbed S2 for the PT instead of getting CARB certification.

The little sticker on the S1 PCM that says "not legal for use on pollution controller motor vehicles" is not a good thing.

I just meant that there doesn't appear to be a stock set of vaules for parameters and an S1 set on the same PCM. It is just the S1 settings and therefore there would be nothing coded specificly that would indicate to the smog test that there were "modifications" from the stock settings. I think that if S1 didn't comply with certain monitoring procedures required by the EPA, the computer test would show up as "not passed" in the states that require it and it seems as though people are passing those computer tests. However each state has different requirements and some states just may not comply with all the EPA testing procedures. I really don't know. Now that little sticker may be a problem for some individuals that perform the test in some states that require a visual inspection. Although the computer may read that nothing is out of the state standard for smog related emmisions, someone that is very "by the book" may not give your vehicle the visual pass needed to clear the test. It might be a good idea for those in states that do require the visual test to get to know a local smog guy and find out how they are about the visual. I know the guy I go to and he always passes any good customer on the visual as long as the comupter check is OK, no matter what you have under the hood!

The 0633 code, from what I understand, is a SKIM code, not an OBD II engine/emissions system code. From what I also undertand, you can actually program that error code out of your Stage 1 PCM WITHOUT affecting the Stage 1 programming.

Yup, my stage one doesn't have that code because it was dealer transferred from another stage one cruiser, basically they transferred my old security data to the new pcm eliminating the code.

Gary, in answer to your original question, the following quote is from a MOPAR engineer:

"Like I said on another thread, OBDI will pass fine with the Staged kits. OBDII might, depending on what they check. OBDII requires that anything that fails (or is operating out of specification) in the emissions system light a MIL (Malfunction Indicator Light). This entails roughly 1,400 things being checked constantly (like checking if your gas cap is tight or whether your thermostat is functioning). In fact, OBDII monitors (as they are called) account for 80% of the calculation overhead in the engine controller and 50% of the code (memory space).

So far, I've only seen one OBDII thing checked during an emissions inspection that the Staged kits might not pass based on Kirby's spy radio thingy. Again I stress might. Also, pretty much guarantee exhaust sniffer will pass fine - unless you go and remove the catalyst or something silly."

I had my car inspected today. NH just started OBD2 testing. I passed with no problems. They used a laptop based scanner. Chrysler I think uses ISO 9141.

I know this item is old, but just wanted to let you know I have a 2003 Turbo, with stage 1, and it did not pass California Smog test. I am now having to get a used ECU and see if it will pass. this is the first test I have had to do, as you are exempt for the first six years.
