I have Stage 1 on my 2003 Turbo, and my car failed the Smog test in California. Wasn't even close on some readings. I am having to put back on the OEM computer, get it flashed, etc. and try it again. I will then put back on the Stage 1 computer.

I live in southern california, my 03 Pt was just smoged for the first time in 09. I have the stage 1 kit, high flow injectors, all the fun stuff and it passed well within the limits. And I think cali is one of the strictest smog states.

S1 moves you up to higher compression and 92 octane only. Right? You should pass emissions. S2 is labeled off road only you will not pass at all.

S1 has no effect on compression (that is a mechanical function), maybe you mean higher boost? It ups the tune some though. I just had my '03 smogged here in So Cal for the 1st time. I have S1 plus a bunch of other stuff and it flew through the test. I have kept my underhood LOOKING as close to stock as possible though. If they had looked hard they would have seen things but I have no red wires, yellow silicone hoses, blue intake piping etc. Everything is black like factory and I run the stock modded airbox.

wow this is an old subject. but since ive not posted in this i'll give my story too.

took the PT for emissions, with visual inspection they saw it had no cat. they ran the OBD2 test and it passed. because it had no cat they stuck a tail sniffer on and ran it again and it passed. Car had S1 PCM installed and stright pipe TB exhaust (pre-Cutout). no im not in CA im in NM and they still hit me with both and still passed.

I have had my '03 GT Turbo, automatic with AMX pipes and modified air cleaner licensed in California, Florida and Texas. Passed with flying colors everywhere. In fact, the tester in California said that this was one of the cleanest vehicles that he ever tested (before hybreds came on the scene.)
