Default Idle with S1

I just drove my S1 for the first time (5 speed) and although I like the performance, I don't like the erratic idle speed. I notice I'm going from 2,000 down to 1,000 inbetween shifts as well as when idling. My installer told me the computer needs some time to "adjust" itself. Just wondered if this is normal? All feednack welcome, (I like the sound of the BOV!) Sounds like a whale coming up for air.

There should be NO "erratic idle speed" at all. It should have a steady idle somewhere between 600-800rpm after the engine has reached operating temperature. Give it a couple hundred miles driving at various speeds (make sure you do some WOTs) to give the new "S1" PCM time to learn your driving style. [8)]

Nice to hear your car likes its new sound and name..."Bruiser the Whale"! [?]

Gary, mine idled real well after install. In fact I was anticipating some problems, with real cold weather through the Winter, but mine's performed flawlessly.

Gary, try disconnecting the negative battery terminal for a few minutes. This could help reset the PCM.

My GT w/auto had no issues with idle speed. I can't tell that I have stage 1 'till I go to WOT. I'm on some other forums besides this one and I haven't heard of anyone else having your problem. I hope you don't have a sack of lemons there. [:0]

Welcome to the insanity Mark, I'm sure you are going to enjoy you new ride. There's an absolute Ton of mods you can do. Surf the different forums & you'll find all kinds of info on the different things you can do. [8)] It'll help you make your decisions that are right for you, that won't break the budget. As far as Stage I goes, yes it is a great mod & relatively inexpensive.

Welcome to the forum, Mark. Yes, most all have noticed a real positive difference after "S1" installation--better performance [8)] and improved overall driveability. Use the Search feature of the forum to find lots of good information on previously posted threads:

Good luck. [8]
