I use Simple Green on my non turbo manifold as it was installed. Spray lightly with water, spray the simple green, scrub (I use an old toothbrush), rinse. I then use turbomangt's (Gary Kouba) sealer.
Took 2 Second Places for engine compartment, so I know it works. Good luck.
