Do I think that the dealer will use cheap gasoline, hell YES!!.
OK, no problem....

Just call the SalesCritter, and the SalesManager, and say "DO NOT PUT GAS IN THE CAR".

The splash the factory put in should be enough to get you to a gas station.

That's basically what I would do. Not alot of money involved but you will have peace of mind. The past few cars I've bought I also tell them not to prep the car, I'll just check it out before I sign the papers to make sure nothing appears to be wrong. I got a car one time and they must of had some that had no clue what to do and preped the car which ended up having tons of swirl marks. Wasn't happy

The town I live in ONLY has normal grade gasoline. I have to drive about half an hour to get prmium fuel. This means that on NUMEROUS occasions I have used no-premium fuel, but have never had a problem. I always try to fill up with premium, but sometimes I am trapped with no options other than to put normal fuel in my tank.... and after a year and a half I havent had any problems from these few indiscretions with the lower class gas.

I just posted something about fuel grades in the gas price thread. For those of you who INSIST that you must use premium( all you Hi-po GT people)..read this.
http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/...emiumgas_x.htm

You cars will run FINE on regular, you just wont haver as much performance. I thought people knew this. If you have it modified, then you more than likely have to use premium. But if all you have is a boost controller, then turn it down to stock boost levels & you will be fine.

I used to tow ALOT of stuff with my old V8 Tundra & used ONLY regular fuel. There was NEVER any noticable difference between the two grades of fuel. I could tow my VR4, parts, a loaded bed & 3 people & still be able to pass people on the interstate with no trouble at all. Alot of time the power actually suffered when I used premium.
**Ofcourse** if you choose to run regular, then you may run into preigintion problems. The best thing to do is gauge it yourself. Put in a 1/2 tank or so. If it works fine then just keep adding reg. If the preigintion gets to bad for you. Then add some premium. It's kinda a guessing game as each engine is different. I know quite a fe waround here with Hi-po's that run reg with no troubles.

I concur that using higher grades of gasoline than recommended by the manufacturer is typically an exercise in futility. I also agree that the computer will attempt to back the performance down to match the lower grade of gasoline.

If you are actual hear pinging you can be pretty sure that the computer isn't being able to compensate for the grade of gasoline you are running. Remember that Chrysler does recommend Premium fuel for the HO Turbo. I am fairly certain that the PCM program in the turbo-lite and the HO turbo are significantly more different than just limiting the boost to 8 psi.

There are some who are not able to get 91 octane gasoline and the manual indicates that this is OK but you will experience less performance. Per the manual: "High quality unleaded gasoline having a minimum octane rating of 87 may safely be used for your vehicle. Use of these lower octane gasolines, however, may result in reduced acceleration performance."

As always you should avoid heavy spark knock. The manual (page 181 in the '03 GT manual) states: "Continued heavy spark knock at high speeds can cause damage and immediate service is required. Engine damage resulting from operating with heavy spark knock may not be covered by the new vehicle warranty."

In a nutshell, the answer to the original question is if they put a tank of regular in, problems should NOT arise in the future. If you are following the Chrysler recommended break in directions you will probably not notice the difference during the first 200 miles.

Well I was told that they delaer used 89 octane. I did not have a chance to tell them that I was going to fill up the tank myself. Well the vehicle performed perfectly with 89 octane. My tank is semi empty. I am waiting for the gas light to come on and fill with premium gasoline. In my area (Northern VA) premium gas is an extra 20 cents, meaning an extra $2.00. Oh well, as I always say "Do not buy a car if you can't afford the gas" Thanks.
