Just bought a used prestine 2001 PT, needs 30K mile service including oil, filter, checking belt, spark plug and air filter change.
Can this be done properly in the "quicklube" like shop? or should I take it to the dealer?, how much would they charge? Seems like some debate on the best spark plug etc. any recommendations or experience will be appreciated. Although I have some mechanical knowledge, I am not into do it yourself... gychang |

I say a qualified no for each question. Assuming you dont do your own work, you should find a qualified independent mechanic to do your 30,000 mile maintenance work. Here in So Calif they charge about 30% less per hour than a dealership. Yes, sometimes a quicklube shop will do plugs and timing but usually they lack expertise and they do a really poor job of finding other problems.

Agree w/steelblue. It may end up being false economy. Quicklube is geared to oil changes, the PT spark plugs require removal of intake manifold to get at, and should be done by someone who's at least read up on how to do it.
For an '01, I'd recommend Champion platinum plugs - Sparkplugs.Com, or NAPA has them - don't overlook wires - stock wires are crap - get Crane wires at RaceAndStreet.Com - best wires for the money. Spend a few more bucks and get Mobil1 synthetic (WalMart has 5-quart jugs about $25) in it.

K&N drop in replacement. You wash it off every 10,000 miles and reuse it. It also improves performance, at least it did in mine.
