Default reprogramming computer

I have a 2006 PT Cruiser, non-turbo, that I put a different exhause and an airaid cold air intake system.
Is it true that anytime you do anything to the PT, exhause and aircleaner, that you need to remove the negative cable from the battery for five minutes to that the computer will reprogram itself to the new applications that are installed? [:I]

From what I've read on different forums, there's two schools of thought on this. One, you just keep driving and the computer will pick up on the new modifications, the other, as you said, take the negative battey cable off for a few minutes, put it back on and drive for awhile in your normal style so the computer will pick right up on the new mods. Your choice.
