Default Champion Irridium plugs - DON'T!!!

Got 2 sets of Champion irridium plugs (one set for daughter's GT, 1 set for mine).
Went to change daughter's plugs, and when putting it first new plug, couldn't tighten it all the way...
Took it out and compared to the stock - threads and reach the same, but the hex "nut" part on the irridium is closer to the park end of the plug. What happens is outer edge of socket hits the "well" that the plugs goes in, and can't reach the "nut" after some turns....
Why'd Champion do that? How can they say it's for the engine?

Anybody get them installed? Anybody have the Desno irridiums with special socket???

QSD,

For the record....

I had nothing to do with Champion's iridium plug that you say is suposedly for the 2.4L PT engine. I voiced loud concerns with the Denso screwball setup a few years ago.

I did get the double platinum plugs #7440 & #7570 to market, way back in late 2000 & early 2001. They are mine, but the iridiums are not.

I wish you had - I'm sure you would not have let them come up with this.

Any polite suggestions?[:I]

I'm confused. There are at least 3 makers for Iridium plugs out there. Champion, NGK and Denso. So which one actually works? NONE???

They now say the Densos don't need a modified socket, but I don't like that their reach is different and I'm not sure about the seat, either. Dunno about NGK...
It appears the Champions have the same seat and reach, but the blasted hex part got moved --- WHY??? [xx(]

The NGK iridiums work great especially in the turbo. Ther is no special socket required and standard plug wires fit fine. The iridiums last much longer than the copper and are trouble free so far, and no need to change every oil change as some were doing with the copper.

Can't you just return them and tell them that they don't fit properly?

They'll fit, because the reach and seat are the same as the coppers - I did email the with my problem and asked about special socket...
I also coated one with anti-seize....[xx(]
